How much weight are you meant to be putting on in your second trimester?

Hi ladies,

I'm 14 weeks on Monday and in my first trimester i literally put on no weight. As I wasn't eating properly due to feeling sick all the time. I'm now in the second trimester and I've lost a pound. I'm not overly concerned as before pregnancy I wasn't at my ideal weight. I am eating more just when I feel like it. It's more snacking but try and eat 3 meals a day. I don't feel half as sick as I did in the first trimester but heartburn, dihorrea, constipation has kicked in.
I'm not worried about myself with weight as if it was up to me i would rather not put any on. As put 3 stone on with my first daughter 😓 but not sure how much baby needs and how much weight I should be gaining this trimester. ( second pregnancy)

Any info would be fab!!
Thank you xx

I went with half a kilo per week from 20 weeks onwards. It obviously fluctuated but I’m now 35 weeks and I’ve put on 7kg since booking.

I think it totally varies from person to person, and what your current BMI is too as there are different guidelines for whether you start off underweight/overweight etc.
I'm 36+2 wks pregnant and have put on just under 7lbs total, had no sickness at all, just tried to be sensible, however I was a size 16-18 beforehand.

I'm slightly underweight generally and when I met with the consultant he asked if I had an eating disorder, which I don't, however, I'm not a big eater. He told me about studies on women in 3rd world countries who were severely underweight and they still had healthy babies. Obviously you want to be giving your body the nutrients it needs but my point is that even if you aren't necessarily putting on weight yet its extremely unlikely to do your baby harm.
As other posters have said, I think you should be looking to gain after 20 weeks and mainly in the 3rd trimester, so I really wouldn't worry about it yet.

Thanks ladies yer I am currently 14-16 in clothes and read about not putting much weight on. Just worry if it was ok. Saying that tho I suppose as long as your eating baby just takes what he/she needs from you and also as long as your drinking which is important x
