Anyone taking/ was taking Odansetron in 3rd trimester

Hello,

Not sure pregnancy is the right forum for this but in the absence of a postnatal thread...

Has anyone taken Odansetron up until they've had their baby, and if so did they just stop taking it after the baby was born or did they have to cut down gradually?

I've had the pharmacist imply that if I've been taking it for so long I shouldn't just stop and my GP say it was fine to just stop.

Has anyone else been in this situation and if so, how did you play it?

Many thanks.

You might want to try the hyperemisis support thread on here (I was on there before my DC2 was born just over a year ago) as there will be lots of women on there currently taking ondansatron. I was prescribed ondansatron at about 7 weeks, which was then combined with cyclizine after a second hospital admission. I was taking 3 of each until birth. I had to take one tablet after birth but within 12 hours of birth the sickness totally disappeared (after one big vom session on post natal ward). Nobody (gp or consultant) mentioned anything about having to stop gradually.

Good luck with your final trimester OP. Hyperemisis is horrid.

Oh thank you so much SleepymrsE, for both your experience and the steer to the hyperemesis thread.

You poor old thing having to take three of each. But so pleased you didn't have to wait too long after birth to not need to.take them anymore (after that last chunder-y hurrah!).

Yes. Stopped taking it at birth (threw up tablet during labour so had it on a drip which I was on until baby out), sickness lasted another 24 hours then went. No other problems.
