Second test the line is lighter

Hi

I had some weird period pain like cramps yesterday. I had a missed miscarriage a few months ago so I decided to do another test to “put my mind at rest” ... and now I’m even more concerned. The top test I did just over a week ago and there was a very clear line that came very quickly, I’ve just taken a second test and the line is much lighter and took longer to show up ... is this a sign that I am having another missed miscarriage?

Has anyone experience this and everything be ok? I don’t really feel pregnant which is another reason I took a second test but surely it should be very dark at this point as my period was due 11 days ago 🙁

Your control line also looks lighter. Looks like you might have peed on the stick. To have comparable results, you need to use fmu, pee into a container and time how long the test is in for.

If you’re fretting, you could book yourself an early scan - sounds like you’re probably 5.5 weeks along do it’s possible to see things on a scan already.

I also suffered a miss miscarriage so I’m so sorry to hear you’ve just gone through one :( it does effect you afterwards because you’re convinced there’s something wrong but the test last week says positive, it does look as though the second test might not have been done exactly the same and you’ve got to make sure you’re taking tests first thing in the morning for the hcg levels to be high. Try the method mentioned above of weeing into a container... ( I used a cup and dp was like BURN IT WE WILL NEVER DRINK FROM IT AGAINNN!!!) haha and then place the absorbent tip in for the correct test time. You could book a GP appointment and ask them to also do a test for you, they have the big test sticks that are very concentrated. I’m not sure if you’ll get an early scan from the NHS when I asked they said ‘we don’t scan before 12 weeks because likelihood of miscarriage is higher so would be a wastebasket of resources... you could go private?’ So I booked an early scan at 9 weeks with a private clinic. Don’t stress yourself out, this is a different pregnancy, a different time be positive. Good luck x x

Thank you! Sounds daft but the words ‘it’s a different pregnancy’ have really calmed me down I think I’m very much still in my head about our previous loss. Thank you for the advise ladies I’m going to buy another and pee in a container and see if that makes a difference

Or just get a Clear Blue Digital. With your period due 11 days ago, it should show at least 2-3 weeks, or maybe even 3+. For my ‘cups’ I use washed out yoghurt pots. So nothing that would go near the kitchen again Wink

The first one has also had time to get darker. I took a test every day for the first few weeks (weirdo, I know) and some days were lighter than others... and mine was twins... and I took them at the same time every day). I stopped taking tests after the difference in them was clearly quite random.
I’ve had a missed miscarriage so I know how difficult it can be to just relax, but this is a very normal thing xx Flowers

And ignore @Themummy76... looks like she’s made several shitty comments all over mumsnet. Seems to have her comments removed often too.

Er what bigbaboon?! I’ve not had a comment ever removed and don’t make ‘shitty’ comments.
I’ve had 3 early miscarriages - each one like this - a lighter test after a darker test. It shows the hcg isn’t increasing enough. At 5 weeks - a week after a positive test the line should be very dark. I was being honest and nice - what does flowers mean to you?! So F off hey and let the focus be on the op who is in the mist of a horrid time.

Saying I think a lighter time can indicate a miscarriage is imminent does NOT breach the talk guidelines.

Op I hope you are ok and I’m hoping im wrong and that this is a sticker for you. In my last pregnancy that stuck I took no less than 20(!) tests to compare the lines and out of anxiousness. The early weeks are a horrible time.

Had you had a really big drink before doing the second test?

Where I live, you have to get a pregnancy confirmed at the GP surgery to get referred to the midwives. When I was after a midwife referral for my third pregnancy, I got a last minute appointment and ended up having to drink loads of water in order to produce a urine sample in time for the appointment. The urine was so diluted that the line took almost the entire appointment time to appear - it appeared just about the time the nurse practitioner was telling me to go away and come back next week if my period still hadn’t turned up - and the line was so faint that the nurse practitioner said she almost couldn’t see it. I was definitely pregnant - the pregnancy went full term and baby is 11 months old now.
