Early Scan Advice - When is too early?

Hello.

Looking for some info/advice on best time for an early scan.

Currently 5wks pregnant based on date of last period. I usually receive an early scan to check for viable pregnancy before prescribing clexane, due to a history of DVT.

Suffered a MMC back in February, discovered at 11wks. During that brief pregnancy was scanned at 6wks, where sac was empty, then at 8wks when a heartbeat was found.

Keen to have an early scan, but don’t want to go and not detect anything as too early, as that would just have me on tenterhooks. Is 6wks too early if you generally ovulate at day 14 in cycle (i.e. 4wks since ovulation)? Should I wait till 7-8wks?

I would say wait until 7 weeks if you can. We had an early scan at 6 weeks and could only see gestational sac and yolk sac. We had to come back at 8 weeks for a follow up where we saw the heartbeat. Good luck

I would wait until at least 7 weeks and if you can, 8 weeks.

I started my heparin before my first scan this pregnancy. Could you ask to just start the clexane and then you could wait until 8 weeks for a scan that will be conclusive?

Agree, I would wait until 7-8 weeks. Ideally 8 weeks if possible. I've had scans at 7, 8 and 9 weeks. The 7 week one was reassuring (heartbeat found, all growing just fine and as he should have been), but it wasn't very satisfying. The 8 and 9 week ones were much more emotionally satisfying because I could see more and I walked away feeling much more confident and comfortable.

Later the better really. 6 weeks and you are unlikely to see a hb, 7 weeks more likely but still may not, 8 weeks and you should see one of one is there to be seen.
