Morning sickness, existing children and discretion!

Hi,

We are TTC number 3 - our other two dc are 7 and 10. Dc1 I had awful morning sickness (possibly HG, all day, all night, couldn't leave the house but I was young and thought that's what it was like for everyone) - Dc2 was not too bad, sick a few times and nausea but could carry on.

My question is, how do you get away without your children finding out and then telling people if you have morning sickness you cannot hide? I'm worried I'll have it as badly as the first time and I'd have to tell dc as they would be worried about me!

Thanks

Tell them you Have a tummy bug. And it's contagious so stay away lol xx

I thought of that but don't think I'd get away with that for more than a week! Grin With dc being older it would be really hard to get away with it.

My oldest two are young teens so I just told them I'd had too much wine the night before - I told them about their little brother at 8+3 after I'd had an early scan and my daughter was relieved I wasn't actually an alcoholic 😂

Evilclever - that's funny. Did you children keep it a secret until a time you felt happy for people to know?!

I wasn't bothered to be honest. I told my mum/sisters/in laws a few days before the scan so there wasn't really anyone else to tell! I'm terrible at keeping secrets - 8 weeks is the longest I've kept quiet (but I only found out at 7 weeks) 😂

MissMoo Sorry to hear about your mmc - I can't imagine how painful it must be to have to tell dc about that Flowers.

Will your older dc keep it private until you share the news with everyone? I wouldn't want to tell anyone until after 12 weeks or more if I could hide it.

My eldest are 9 and 12 and I suffered awfully with sickness. They didn't really cotton on and when we told them after the 12 week scan my daughter (12) said she was only suspicious because I didn't go on any of my favourite rides at Disneyland. My kids may not be very observant though Smile

My young siblings (12 and 10 at time of telling them) kept it quieter than my older relatives I told. Adults just don't seem to keep things quiet... but maybe that's just my family. 😂

Thanks both - that gives me a little hope that it might not be as tricky as I thought!

If you tell them/they guess, could you word it as 'there might be a baby in there, we need to wait for the doctor to do a scan and check to be sure, and then if there is we can think of a fun way for you two to tell rest of family as a surprise' and then hopefully while they might mention it to friends etc they shouldn't say to family?

Hmm, I'm not sure Bubble but it's a nice idea and one to bear in mind - thank you! I would ideally not want to tell dc about it until after 12 weeks so we know things are 'ok'. I'll just have to see how it goes. I'm probably getting way ahead of myself as it's not a given I'll even get pregnant. Or I may be lucky and float through with no morning sickness (hahaha) Smile
