Getting BFN on tests even when pregnant?

My period is 11 days late (set-your-watch-by-it 27 day cycle). I’ve been having mild cramping (like pre-AF cramping) but no bleeding, and I feel nauseous. Two Superdrug cheapie tests have come back negative and today I used a First Response early result one and that still returned BFN.

Has anyone continued to test negative at this stage and ultimately found out they were pregnant?

If it’s relevant, we weren’t TTC, so both DH and I are feeling a bit all over the place (we were using a condom and weren’t aware of it splitting etc). This protracted uncertainty is difficult for both of us.

Did you take the MAP? That can delay your period.

My step dads sister took a test when she would have been about 2 months pregnant and it was negative, 7 months later she then went on to eventually give birth on a toilet not knowing she was pregnant! HOWEVER, if you wore a condom and it didn't split then it's incredibly unlikely

Hiya, I could not get a positive test for weeks even though I knew deep down that I was pregnant! I eventually got my BFP when I was nearly 7 weeks pregnant and even then first response tests were coming back negative! I’m now 26 weeks pregnant! Let me know what happens-good luck Smile

Thanks all. @peachgreen, no MAP - we didn’t realise there was a problem.

TBH I am fast coming round to the idea, but DH is still very unsure (I’m 35, we don’t have DC and hadn’t planned to start a family). I think it’s the surprise and he’ll adjust, but the not knowing either way isn't helping him.

Day 13 and still no sign of it - will leave it a couple of days and test again. I am sure I’m pregnant thing. Either that or my body is playing very cruel tricks on me.

Hi honey,

I was in the same boat as you three days ago, I haven’t had a period for two months and the cramping was becoming horrendous. Ladies from here told me to go to A&E, I went and I actually have PCOS and cysts are rupturing. I was adamant I was pregnant and every test was coming back negative apart from one however I was wrong. If the pain is still there please go and get checked out and see if they can help x

First pregnancy posertive 2 weeks in

I had negative tests up untill about 7-8 weeks?? Went to gp she thought I was pregnant as regular periods since last pregnancy - had booking in apt.

Went to scan at 13 weeks - twins.

Didn't feel even the tiniest bit pregnant untill about 7 months

A condom that didn’t split coupled with negative pregnancy tests is more likely to suggest another reason for the lack of period IMO. There are a few reasons you could have ovulated late/not at all. If your period doesn’t come soon I’d book in with your GP.

i know the odds are stacked against me actually being pregnant, but I really feel like I am. I wonder if it’s my mind/body playing tricks on me, but this has all come entirely out of the blue.

Have made an appointment for next week with my GP and for now I guess it’s just a waiting game.

Thanks for all your advice.

An update for anyone who finds this through a search in the future (I couldn’t have been the only one frantically googling ‘pregnancy symptoms negative test’. I was continuing to experience strong nausea, sore boobs and these weird twinges in my uterus. Very faint line on a test on Weds gave me hope, but sadly I started spotting yesterday and am now bleeding heavily. The other symptoms have all but disappeared - I don’t ‘feel’ pregnant any more. Have an appointment with my GP on Monday (which I made before the bleeding started) and wondering whether to cancel. I doubt they’ll be much interested in a possible miscarriage at less than 6 weeks.

Thanks again for your advice. I am holding on to the fact that this experience has made me realise that I do want a child to be part of mine and OH’s future (had been ambivalent, leaning towards no until this point).
