Watery discharge after bloody show?

Hello!

I’m currently 39 weeks and had a sweep on Thursday due to hypertension. Being induced day before my due date, next Friday, and I would really much prefer it all to happen naturally! She told me my cervix was ‘very very’ favourable and I was 1cm dilated.

After my sweep I had the expected mild cramps and general discomfort. Later that evening I lost a few specs of pale red blood. These were literally teeny tiny flecks, and that was all!
The next morning however I had the expected ‘bloody’ show. When I wiped tissue was full of mucus and blood, and following that I had on and off period cramps and back pain. However no more of a show until this morning, when I wiped again and had the same albeit less bloody. Is it worth noting that these were both with very loose bowel movements?
Since then I have been leaking bits of my plug, no blood at all now but it’s a lot more watery. I can feel it happening 😳 it’s a pale brown/greeny colour, so I think still my plug but also accompanied by clear fluid!? I keep getting pretty intense period pains but nothing to write home about or any pattern whatsoever!

Does this sound like things are moving or just general expected symptoms from sweep? And is the liquid I’m leaking watery plug normal!?

Sorry for the long post, I’m sure you don’t need me to say I’m a FTM so I’m very confused!

Call your midwife or the hospital. It may be your waters and they'll want to know especially if they are brown or green. Good luck x

They weren’t entirely interested. As it isn’t filling a pad every hour! It seems to have slowed down again, as have the cramps. So no idea!

Got my hopes up but looks like it’s not happening this weekend 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just in case anyone finds this thread in the further - this was in fact my waters! They think it was my hind waters. Due to them breaking and my son not being born for another 5 or so days, he ended up very poorly with sepsis and had to spend the week in hospital as well as myself getting quite a nasty infection.

If anyone finds themselves in a similar situation please do insist on getting checked out!

Thanks for updating, hope you and your son are doing well.

Similar thing happened with my sister, midwife insisted that it wasn't her water. By the time my niece was born there was no water left in the womb and both her and my sister ended up with a very bad infection.

Nickmychocolate it’s terrible really, they’ll just dismiss it if it doesn’t fill a pad within an hour! Thank god everything turned out ok, considering it had been going on for so long!

Hope your sister and her little one are ok!

Remembertosmile ahh how exciting for you!! I was so impatient the last few weeks, it’s still completely surreal that he’s here and he’s nearly 2 weeks old!!

Keep us updated, I’ll be thinking of you! Grin

Yea very scary!!
It was 9 years ago so a while back. She was born very poorly with a hole in her heart and has had a few ops and is all fine now.
Just remembered the same thing happenned with a friend of mine about 5 years ago, again she and baby had an infection but all fine now. Enjoy all the baby cuddles!!

Good luck remembertosmile!

Hi ladies

I had my baby boy yesterday. Short labour but had to have forceps and an episiotomy, and a blood transfusion! Just glad he is here now and cannot wait to go home tomorrow hopefully!
I didn't get a show this time - waters just popped and then contractions got closer together.

That's so bad that they said about the whole filling a pad thing! When my waters went - it was just a trickle, as it was my first baby I didn't know what to do so rang the maternity ward, they asked me how much water I'd experienced losing to which I reiterated it was just a small leak and even then they made me go in!

How awful for you! Hope you're both doing okay now xx

Jitterbug5
Please complain to PALS.
Back in the day you would have been asked to come in to be checked.
Lessons need to be learned from what happened to you.
The outcome could have been even worse.

Sorry to hear that @Jitterbug5, but glad your outcome was ok in the end. Do make a complaint though - as endofthelinefinally says, lessons should be learned x
