Which sleepsuits for September baby

I am 33 weeks pregnant and now thinking about buying things for baby. Really confused about what kind of sleepsuits are more comfortable. Shall i get short sleeved, no legs type or short sleeved full leg types or full sleeve full leg types? Are seperate pajama and t-shirt better?
Also my last baby was 8lb and so far I have gained similar pregnancy weight so may be this baby will be similar size/weight. Should i get newborn size clothes or 0-3 month size?

DS was 9lb 6.5 and now at four week is only just fitting his 0-3 clothes, but because I'm tight he didn't get bought any first size 😂 He's got some pj's but they're a bit of a faff as he's quite the wiggler and the top tends to ride up his back so he's usually in a sleep suit. Long sleeved ones with built in scratch mits.

where did you get the ones with built-in scratch mits? I see so many which cover the feet but none that cover the hands.

Mothercare sleep suits have built in scratch mits up to 3/6 months I think.

My DD will be 1 in September and she was wearing short sleeved vests under full sleep suits by October last year. (Plus light blanket/gro bag at night).

You'll need full sleepsuits plus short sleeved bodysuits to go underneath. If is still quite warm get some short sleeve short leg ones too ( next have theirs in the sale at the mo!) Little outfits are cute to go out in but they'll mostly be in babygros for the first few months. My daughter was 8lb 3oz, newborn lasted about 2weeks, up to 1 month lasted 7 weeks now she's in 0-3. So basically I'd get a selection! That's what I did

Thanks. When you say vest, are they like t-shirts or do they have something to cover nappy too with buttons? Does this list look ok to start with? shall i only pack newborn sizes in hospital bag?

  • 6 sleeveless body suits newborn
  • 3 full sleepsuits with scratchmits new born
  • 3 sleeveless body suits 0-3
  • 3 full sleepsuit with scratchmits 0-3

My DH bought some lovely sleepsuits from mamas&papas that came in a set of 3 with scratch mits. They have a sale section too so they were V reasonable!

I had a Sept baby last year in the midst of a last minute heatwave.

He wore basically sleepsuits for the first 3 months. In September I'd team up with a sleeved (short) vest and if it was super warm a sleeveless vest. By the time October came round it was cool enough for sleepsuits and vests during the day/in house.

I haven't bothered with PJs - and he's 10mths. I pop him in a vest and grobag at night. I don't think you can use grobags immediately after they are born (think they have an age/weight limit) but I just put DS in sleepsuits and swaddles.

Sleepsuits from places like Next, Mothercare, M&S and Sainsbury's come with scratch mitts built into the suit itself. Scratch mitts on their own were pointless - my DS could never keep them on. You just fold them over their hands.

Depends on what the brand/manufacturers guide weight is. Some newborn sizes are up to 7.5lb, some are 10lb. A 3pack from a supermarket will cost about 7quid so no harm in buying a few. It's very rare that you'd have a newborn the size of an average 3 month old...

Also, newer research shows that it's much better for babies to have their hands uncovered. In the womb they're able to thumb-suck and self sooth with their hands. I don't know the ins and outs of it though but may be something to consider

anotherday I just heard that recently as well, that it's better for them to have their hands uncovered. They mentioned it in our prenatal course. I feel like the recommendations for everything change so often and I can barely keep track!

I should have said that although we had integrated scratch mitts we didn't use them much as she'd cry if you 'took her hands away'.

She did scratch her face quite a lot but they heal super fast when they're tiny.

I think they have to be 8lb to go in a gro bag? We sort of swaddled until then I think (it's all a bit of a blur already).

We've not bothered with PJs yet, she's in short sleeved bodysuit (that's what I meant by 'vest' in my pp) and light blanket/gro bag at the moment. Might get some PJs in the autumn.

True, mind uses her hands to self soothe so I don't use the mitts either

Neither of mine were in new born size and both were 8.5 lbs, used the up to 1month size from next. Do remember a mad dash to supermarket to buy more vests, thought I'd plenty...... If you don't want to be washing twice a day I'd say at least double your amounts.

Ds, born 8lb9 was in new born for 3 weeks, he's in 0-3 now but arms and legs a bit long.

I've got to pack away the newborn stuff now, he didn't even wear the damned vests as it's been so warm and he's a fairly warm baby it seems.
I have only got sleep suits (and vests to go under, which it seems was pointless) in newborn and 0-3. Assumed we wouldn't need newborn based on forecast weight from growth scans (which was actually bob on for us) so had to get some more as we got through the pack of three i bought on the first night home.

Think i packed 2sets of newborn in hosp bag. Didn't need more, and we had one night in after birth
