This is my second pregnancy and will be needing a stitch in. Has anyone who can tell me what to expect? I've found medical guidance online but limited real life experiences!

Yes I had 3 , one with each pregnancy.
Mine were done with a spinal block , painless and doesn't take long. Rest after, how far on are you?

Having them removed wasn't very pleasant but to keep the baby in was worry every second!

Were you in overnight? And off from work for how long? Do you get much pain afterwards?

Only 4+5 but all being well I will def be having one as part of my cervix has been removed due to treatment for cervical cancer. Am having a scan ar around 8wks.

Also, what happens if the baby 'doesn't stsy in'? What would happen? Does the stitch tear?

Lots of questions sorry! It dawned on me today that I know v little about it! Confused

Good to catch it early.
In my first pregnancy my cervix had already started opening. So I had it at 24 weeks and I was in hospital 2 days. Subsequent pregnancies were done much earlier , around 11 weeks. I wasn't working so can't advise on time off but I did normal stuff after and obviously had a child or two after each pregnancy to deal with.

It was painful like period pain for a while after.
I don't know of any failures so I can't answer those questions but I know of plenty of successes.
I too had a lot of mine cut away so it's very short.

It's very doable, you'll be fine. Mine were a few years ago but I definitely felt relief and I had the first one taken out at 37 weeks, was told it would shorten and dilate quickly.. went to almost 42 weeks and had to be induced!!

Thanks for this! That definitely makes me feel a bit better about things.

I've been told I'll be booked in for an elective c section at 39 wks and we 'hope I make it that long' Hmm so not sure what would happen if I don't if you see what I mean. I guess I'll just be monitored closely at the end and if it's not looking good then I'd be booked in sooner.

Lots of questions for my consultant!

It's such a good procedure, you will be monitored so closely too which you need for peace of mind.
I ended up having 3 sections, only the first we tried naturally but it didn't go to plan.
Everything about the others, stitch included was really well dealt with.

Good luck! X

Did the just take it out while you had your section?

Yes it was removed after the section. Which was much nicer than the first one that was removed with his hand and scissors with no pain relief!
