Hey!

I'm looking at buying the pram for first baby so not really sure on what is handy etc! I have decided on the Henley special edition silver cross but I'm unsure shape wise between the surf and pioneer, I prefer the surf but Im worried re the basket size, has anyone got either of the two/ have any issues with either ?

I also wanted the pebble plus car seat but was advised it was too heavy and would have to go for the pebble I like the newborn insert in the pebble plus as it seems cosier for the baby! Does anyone know if you can purchase these separately and if so where from ?

Thank you! Smile

We had the surf for our DS and believe me, the basket is tiny. We are considering a different pram for this next baby, as the basket just wasn't practical.

We never did 'big shops' with the pram, but even just a top up, or having a day out, it just wasn't practical size wise.

We have the original Surf (bought 2nd hand), and the basket is tiny, which is annoying. I think the basket is bigger on the new Surf 2 and Surf 3 - but still small in comparison to the Pioneer. If we'd been buying new I would have chosen the Pioneer at the time, however I've been happy with the Surf. On the plus side for the Surf it's a narrower base than the Pioneer and fits in the car boot better, plus the back wheels come off which is useful when going away and boot space is at a premium.

Overall it depends how important basket space is to you and your mode of transport - if I took the bus a lot I'd
definately want the Surf, if I don't want to carry bags when shopping I'd have the Pioneer. I use a rucksack when doing big shopping trips to compensate for small basket, yes small basket can be annoying sometimes but for me it's not a deal breaker.

We have the pioneer and in all honesty I hate it (sorry!). Baby is 7 months now and it was lovely with the carry cot option but since we've moved to the big seat it's heavy, awful to push, the wheels just have a total mind of their own. It's nigh on impossible getting up and down kerbs, it just seems to buckle under its own weight.

The basket is a good size and we may have just been unlucky and got a dodgy frame but I'm so disappointed with it.

I didn't try the Surf but know a few people with them who seem to like them.

Choosing a pram is a mine field!

Check out Pramworld (co.uk I think)- they're selling the Surf 3 (but it doesn't say it's the 3 until you get to the checkout) with old colour packs for £425!! I got mine and checked with Silver Cross, and it is the 3- absolute bargain as it's £808 in other colours! Even if you don't like the colour pack you can buy another colour for £150, or I noticed the black one was £75 on Silver Cross's website a few weeks ago.

Can't wait to use mine Grin!

We knew we wanted a silver cross and went for the pioneer. I love it. Everything about it. We don't drive so use public transport, and the big basket has been a godsend.
I didn't like the wheels on the surf, or the tiny basket.
We love our pioneer so much we will be keeping it for baby number 2 in a few years

The plus points of the surf are great though - we had the 2.
It was fab from the point of view of being small (fit in my mini boot with a wheel off, although had to take 2 off to get it in a Nissan Juke boot...?!)
The steering was fantastic - so smooth.
The carry cot always felt small, and our son outgrew it very quickly
I do still love it, it's just the basket in it that was far too small .

I've got the pioneer. It's a very sturdy feeling pram, and nice to have dd facing me or out now she's 16months. But in hindsight, I'd have got something smaller. The basket is great, and when I was on may leave had no worries walking into town to get shopping, knowing I could shove it all under the pushchair.

We went away when dd was 6 weeks old, the pram took up the whole boot! We were trying to cram small bits in between gaps but there was literally no room! And we have a big car (bmw 5 series). We then went away when dd was 4 months (nearly 5)and moved her into the seat unit as it was slightly more compact. But the frame still takes up a huge amount of room.

Public transport round here is always busy and the few times I tried to get a bus I gave up because I couldn't hold dd and fold at the same time. Even with the seat unit now, it has to face outwards and you still need 2 hands to fold. I've got an umbrella fold now if we haven't got the car.

My sister had the mamas and papas armadillo flip, I really wish I'd got something similar.
