Food and Supplements for Labour

What are your recommendations? :)

With my first I drank raspberry leaf tea and ate dates religiously. I do rate them as labour was free of intervention despite difficulties with the cord and I barely tore, also had no after pains and bled very little. All dialated for 6 to 10 hours earlier than the midwife expected me too!

For this time I will be doing the same and am also looking into evening primrose oil from the 3rd trimester onwards. Has anyone else heard of or used anything that is supposed to make labour easier? I've tried to google but it's mainly results about trying to induce labour or make it go quicker. I'm more interested in things that make it easier rather than say, spicy food or castor oil.

Sorry that should say "and dilated from 6cm to 10cm hours earlier than the midwife exoected" Blush

Absolutely. There have been several studies on their efficacy for shortening early labour and some other benefits. It's also very well documented anecdotally dating back hundreds and hundred's of years.

Sorry forgot to add, the studies used the amount of 6 dates a day but doesn't say what the exact amount is, although I saw on Reddit someone had found a source saying the beneficial amount is around 70g a day.

Clary Sage oil is supposed to be amazing. I'm hoping to get some for when I go in for my induction. Loads of info online about it.

I agree Cabbage I think that's what helped me, especially post birth with uterine contractions and lochia etc. Mine was much lighter than I had been told to expect and I didn't have any after pains at all in that respect. In fact my body did really well after birth and I definitely attribute it to the copious amounts of tea Grin

Thanks Fcuk ! I new this was a useful question as I haven't come across that :) I will look into it now!
