Black Tar Like Stool - Not taking iron tablets - Anyone else had this?

Hi all

I have noticed over the last few weeks that my stools are a very dark tar like black colour. I am 28 weeks pregnant now and not taking additional iron supplements. I went to see the doctor this morning who has taken various blood tests to check if I'm anaemic etc but didn't take a stool sample. She advised that I follow up in two weeks to see how I get on in relation to stools as black stools can be an indication of gastrointestinal bleeding. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what were the treatment options and can it affect the baby?

I would say make sure you chase up the blood results ASAP, they should have them in 24h. If any other symptoms (dizziness etc) I think you should go to a+e. Aerial you having any heartburn/abdominal pain?

Yes will chase up the blood results. I'm getting heart burn but no abdominal pain as such - have you experienced this before?

My ds had this the other week. Apparently eating dark foods like blueberries or chocolate can cause it to go funny.
The day before he'd snuck nearly entire pack of Oreos. Have your eating habits changed at all?

No they haven't really changed and also it's been like this for a few weeks now
