I'm 38+3 days pregnant and been getting this weird pink discharge for the past day or so. It's pretty thick discharge but when spread on toilet paper it's quite stringy. Been getting bad backache and vagina cramps so could this be the start of something? I also have bad thrush throughout so thinking it could also be that? Is it worth going epu?

If you think it is thrush then go to the pharmacy tomorrow morning. Sounds like it could be the start of things though. Exciting!

The plug is more of a gob although it can be 'gobby' too and come in pieces. Looks like discharge and because it's slightly red I wonder is it a tiny bit of bleeding from inflammation. Probiotics are wonder drugs for thrush (take a tonne of them at this stage to treat and then a few a day to maintain) and if you have a syringe you could try putting some plain yogurt into your vagina. I know I know, but it actually works and it's very soothing. That's all presuming that it's not the start of something else!

My plug was slight pink tinge ...if it's more fresh looking blood I would go get checked xxx

In my experience my plug was more a clear jelly like substance with a obvious red streak down the middle.

Maybe call your midwife if you are concerned.

That looks like plug to me. I guess just wait and see if anymore comes out.

I agree with pp, my plug was like a clear stringy snot substance that came away in one limp, and then a few days of stringy bits. Mine wasn't streaked red but brown, which I was told was just old blood rather than fresh.
It doesn't look like a plug to me, but discharge with blood in it but obviously everyone experiences different. I think I'd speak to midwife / GP in this case just to be sure there wasn't something else going on, infection or the like.

That is exactly what I had about 24 hours before labour pains!!

But always be careful and get checked out. Are you getting any twinges?

I rang the day assessment unit they didn't seem to concerned but they did think it sounded like my show and I did mention that I had thrush!
I'm still not convinced. I've been getting bad backache for 2 days now and then ache stomach here and there. Never experienced braxton hicks either so not sure if it could be that.
Baby Is still really active and seems like he's moving a lot further down but again I'm not really sure.
Really hoping it is the start of something because the thrush is getting me down and getting told I can't treat it is horrible

Is it worth me ringing up again and asking to do a cervix check to see what is actually going on

Only the midwives at your hospital can decide the best course of action for you rather than mumsnet so if you are concerned ring your maternity unit again. Hope you get on OK.
