Pregnancy

Reduced movement 31 weeks

I'm currently 31 weeks with my second baby. Im not sure whether I'm being paranoid but I feel that for the past few days her movements are becoming less. I can still feel her moving but definitely not as much. I've read that sometimes this is due to baby not having much room to move around in so not sure whether I should be worried or not? I've tried laying on my side and cold drink etc and get the occasional movement but not like i usually would.

I've also noticed my sickness is getting a lot worse. I've had it all the way through this pregnancy but the past couple of days haven't really kept any food down, or even really had an appetite.

Has anyone else had anything similar in pregnancy? There's a 12 year age gap between the two so I can't really remember from my first pregnancy

Phone your maternity and get checked out. Babies movement doesn't reduce as you get bigger that is a myth.

There should be a number for the maternity assessment unit in your notes - give them a call. The 'baby running out of space' idea is false and it's always best to get any change in movements checked out. Good luck Smile

It might be nothing, but what do you have to lose by going to get checked out? Hope all is ok.

Phone up your maternity ward/assessment ward now and grab a bag to take with you. Always better to check than not and they would want to check rather than miss anything. Phone them now. Good luck

Forget phoning, just grab your notes (if handy) and get to maternity unit to get checked out - better to be safe than sorry!

You need to have baby checked out, any changes in usual movements need to be.

Another one for calling Mat Triage. They are there for stuff like this. Don't be afraid to make a fuss if you are worried. Be pushy.

Everything is fine. Baby is moving around all back to normal. I've had a very stressful week so could possibly be I just haven't felt her because I've been so busy and stressed out but all is calm. I had a midwife appointment this morning and mentioned it to her and she said just to keep an eye out for reduced movements but for now all is well and my baby girl is letting me know she's ok and kicking around Smile

Ah so pleased everything is ok. I had an Anterior Placenta with both of my pregnancies and hardly felt my ds move at all. I know it can be scary.

What actually counts as reduced movement? Is it if you haven't felt the baby move in a few hours?

Take a look at charity kicks count - it's not just about reduced movements it's also if things change. Knowing what's normal for your baby and if that changes to get checked. Glad everything is ok

user reduced movement is not just a loss of feeling baby it can also be if your baby's pattern of movements change - so for example if your baby regularly moves a lot in a morning but then your baby doesn't move as much but is still moving then you are experiencing reduced movement. You should also look out for any changes in baby's pattern of movement, not just reduced movement, and also increase in movement. Basically, you should observe and try to learn your baby's pattern and any deviation from that should be checked. If you are pregnant user and are experiencing anything like that then please go get checked .

Thanks for this information. There seems to be very little pattern to my baby's movements other than it usually moves more frequently in the evening. But the other morning it was moving a lot. I had no idea there was meant to be a regular pattern. Now I'm really worried

Hi user, how many weeks are you?

Report
MistressMolecules · 24/02/2017 18:27

No don't be worried, I didn't know about tracking patterns (eg baby is normally busy in a morning etc) until later on when I found Kicks Count website so wasn't really paying much attention. However, if you do think that your baby is moving less then you really need to ring your midwife or your local maternity unit ASAP, they will check you and baby over. Flowers

I will be 32 weeks tomorrow.

Every day is different so one day there will be less movement and then the next day there will be more! I thought that, as long as I can feel it move every now and again (probably every few hours), then everything was OK. But maybe not. I'm having a look at the kick counts website now, thanks for the link.

I'm not in the UK so I don't have a midwife or local maternity unit.
