Hi
Had my 28 week scan today and they said my little girl is measuring small weighing 2lbs9oz . Just wondered if anybody else had this at their 28 week scan. I've got another growth scan in 4 weeks so hopefully she's gained some more.

I'm almost certainly my DS weighed around that at 28w - I had growth scans because of a higher than normal BMI. He ended up being 8lbs 6oz at birth (38w via c-section) and would have easily been 9-10lbs had I gone to due date!

You dont get a scan at 28 weeks in the uk unless there are concerns.

I would of thought 2lb 9 is about right for 28 weeks?

Yeah I have a high bmi which is why I've had a growth scan today they said she's in between small and normal so want to rescan in 4 weeks time . I would if thought 2lbs 9oz was an ok weight for 28 weeks but apparently not

I would think that is a good weight. DD was born at 29 + 5 weighing 2lb 12oz and everyone thought it was a great weight.

Yeah I thought that weight would be ok, had the scan and also midwife measured me and it was the midwife that said she was on the small side, hopefully when I go back in 4 weeks they will say all ok

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and at 28 weeks DS was estimated at 3lb5oz! He's massive, but then so was DD.

I think 2lb9oz is in normal range?

My ds was born at 27+2 weighing 2lb 3.5 oz and he was considered a good weight. I would think that was a good weight for 28 weeks.

My ds measured small (2lb at 32weeks) I had to have scans every 2 weeks from 28weeks onwards. He gained weight, he was just small. He was born 4days after his due date weighing 6lb 4. He is now a very happy healthy 1 year old (and not small anymore!)

Thank you you've all put my mind at ease, I'm wondering if their comparing her to my little boy as he was a big baby all the way through on the growth charts etc and was over 8lbs when nor . Hopefully when I go back in four weeks they will say she's fine

Its all dependant on your height and weight (so their size should be relative to yours)
If you have had previous children, they will take into account their birth weight also.
The mid-wife explained all this to me at my first growth scan.
It could be that she might be slightly less than estimated at this stage. (But still a good healthy weight for gestation)

Mine is sitting on the 40th percentile, im happy with that atm

Thanks for all the replies. Feeling better knowing you've all said that's pretty much where she should be. I think their going against my little boy who was always big on the growth charts through my pregnancy and weighed over 8lbs when born

Hi I just had a growth scan at 27+5 and my little boy is considered small, but within limits, at 2lb 5.

Sounds fine to me. I've been having 4 weekly scans since 24 weeks due to my first baby being small (2nd%). They are probably saying it is small based on you and the size of your first baby, you will have a personalised growth chart in your notes. Did they show you where it was on the chart? Mine has gone from 10th% at 28 weeks to 50th at 32 weeks and is looking like it will be a lot bigger than their older brother!

I had a scan last week when i was 29 w and 4 days, my son is measuring bigger than average and he was only 3 lb. he's on the top centile for his belly measurements and hes quite lanky, so hes a big baby and still only 3lb. I think that is about right for your dates, i would say anyway :) x
