Suddenly measuring ahead

I'm very slim and small, my unborns father is also fairly short and slim, I've always measured a week or two behind with no concerns about it as I'm so petite, baby was expected to be on the smaller side.
Last time I was measured I believe I was 28wks, measuring 26ish,
Went to appt today, currently 33+4, was measured 3 times to confirm what they had seen.. I'm measuring at between 36 and 37 wks.
Both my midwife and her trainee who was also checking me over said they were shocked but on further poking and prodding decided they weren't concerned as they can feel baby just fine and so the problem wasn't too much water... Or anything else they said (I was a bit stupefied at this point, didn't keep track of technical terms being spouted at me). I did clock on that they said he must just be big.
The thing is.. I AM quite concerned about it, as my daughter was born at 37 wks (measuring smaller than that!) so naturally, I'm thinking, oh shit, he's the same size as she was at birth, what if he comes now?! (I realise I'm panicking and he likely won't)
Has this happened to anybody else, though? Has anybody been small throughout and then had a sudden burst of unexplainable growth? How did it pan out for you? Tell me I'm just being paranoid

The measuring bump thing is so inaccurate I don't know why they do it. I was always measuring 2 weeks too big and my baby came 3lb smaller than her brother. It could be that your baby has changed position. If your midwife isn't worried then you shouldn't be either.

I agree that measuring the bump can be very inaccurate. I was measured at 31 weeks as 28 weeks so 3 weeks small. 2 days later a scan measured me at 34 weeks.

If your unsure id ask for a scan to be safe. I measured bigger suddenly but the midwife didn't think there was any extra fluid from feeling the bump, she didn't mention extra fluid as a possibility either way but that turned out to be what it was. So basically just trying to say that I'm not sure they can accurately tell from feeling the bump wether there's excess fluid or not. Measuring the bump can be very inaccurate but they shouldn't just measure and then ignore the findings for that reason, otherwise there'd be no point in doing it! So whilst you are probably being paranoid, don't let that stop you asking for a scan if it'll help, it certainly can't cause any harm

I'd definitely ask for a second opinion. From what you have said, the midwife has found a potential problem, not identified any reason for it and decided to do nothing about it. That is not good healthcare.

I agree that the measuring thing is anachronistic but I would think it has some accuracy against itself - your bump was smaller than the 'weeks' but consistent and grew at the anticipated pace until suddenly a big surge. I would definitely want to know more.

Oooh crikey I think I will try to get a second opinion then, who would I call about getting a scan without a referral from my midwife? Or do I ring my midwife back and ask her for the referral..?

Not too sure, I'd phone and ask your midwife first, and if she's not helpful phone maternity assessment instead? If you say your worried and really need the reassurance they should help. It's probably nothing but problems can and do arise when your not expecting them so don't feel bad about fighting for your baby. And good job on not googling! Google is evil for things like this

This happened to me at 36 weeks. I went for a growth scan in the end. As it happens, baby is normal size but I do have to much fluid and after further testing gestational diabetes which was abit of a shock as I've been really well! So I too would try and get a scan!
