A question about waters not breaking - had 2 babies born in theirs what are odds on a 3rd?

With both of my other births
ds was born in his bag and it was ruptured when he was delivered

DD was in her bag as her nead crowned then my waters went

Does this mean this is likely to happen again
Or is there no way of knowing

Hi Piffle,

Not sure of actual facts on this, maybe do a google search on it?

IME, with both ds's, my amniotic sacs both had to be ruptured manually, with ds1 I had been fully dilated for a while and just wasn't feeling the urge to push, so the midwife decided to break my waters.
With ds2, my labour had slowed (after giving in to the midwife and having pethidine ), and his heartbeat had slowed, so she decided they needed breaking to speed things along.

At the time, I had only just discovered the wisdom of MN, so didn't know it was entirely possible to give birth with the waters intact (although have always wondered - does it mean you're more likely to tear because of the volume of the waters along with the baby?)

I'm now pg again, and am planning to have as natural a birth as possible, so it remains to be seen whether my waters will break or whether he/she will be 'born in the caul'!

it is meant to be really lucky , to be born in the 'caul', if you are a sailor, you will never drown at sea if you are born in the caul!

think it is one of those things that cannot be predicted , but if it happened twice , who knows!

seen some amazing pics of a baby being born with the membranes intact and the sac bulging out like a balloon! fascinating stuff !

hi!
with my first birth my waters broke as i was pushing! what a forceful gush that was! second time i had a water birth and my dd came out still in her sac! in her waters in the water!
re tearing - i tore first time when my waters had broken and not the second time when my waters didnt go!
you have made me think now..........i wonder what will happen to me this time!!

Piffle, my last two babies came with the waters as they broke -really fast. I suspect it maybe makes the labour pain seem more bearable, though the babies coming and waters breaking contraction makes me tremble and go into a bit of shock! But I've been wondering if it'll happen that way again too...

Just remembering how I suddenly feel as if I'm about to explode and then I sort of do explode! I'm feeling nervous now!
Am contemplating a water birth this time but my problem is I get really cold in labour and have to wrap up in ridiculous amounts of warm stuff so not sure if I'd feel warm enough in the birthing pool...ramble ramble...

How are you hoping it will go this time?

Can it be too fast?

i had a water birth and felt the opposite! i got boiling hot and stayed hot all night! so much so that i didnt realise it was actually quite cold in the room i was in and my dds temp went right down and then they had to put her on a heat pad the next day to get her temp back up before they would let us go home!

my first was born normally, waters had ruptured in the birthpool,

but my 2nd was born in the sack, the midwives had to pop the sack with an amniohook,

i think its just pot luck

The Mws broke my waters with my first 3. I then realised that was what had made the labours unbearable and refused for the 4th. Can't remember whether they actually did go on their own at the end. My father was born "with a caul" so I'm assuming it's genetic?

I never tore for the record, DP jokes that my births were easier because I was only squeezing out a soft balloon not a bony little baby

it did create a colossal whoosh both times I must say

Guess I'll just have to wait and see
