Eating more cause bigger baby?

There's t things on my mind, I'm totally worried about my baby being huge and how come bigger women, more overweight women, have smaller babies?

Last baby was 8 pound 3, 2 weeks over. I am 5ft 9, a size 12 so not a tiny person, but not at all overweight either. I've heard before that sweet foods make baby bigger, well this pregnancy I cannot stop eating biscuits and chocolate, waffles, pancakes. I'm also eating a tonne of carbs, like potatoes, pasta, rice because they keep me full, otherwise I feel starving and cat stop thinking of food. I can't control my self, I've gained nearly a stone and I'm half way through. I have a feeling this one will be a 10 pounder. My last pregnancy I ate so healthy, drank only water etc and she was 8.3Them being healthy is the main thing but Im terrified of a difficult birth, them being so big they get stuck or distressed.

But anyone noticed that bigger women don't have that bigger babies? My friend gave birth a month ago. She's a size 22, she was induced 2 days early and had a 6pound 2 little dot. Another girl on Facebook who I can see is really overweight had a 7 pound baby.

It's to do with gestational diabetes. Mothers-to-be with gestational diabetes can have large babies. It is larger women who get gestational diabetes, but not all large women.

Have you been offered the blood sugar test?

I didn't have gestational diabetes and two of my babies were over 4.5kg. Just luck of draw/genetics I think!

I am on my third pregnancy. Have been all different sizes when pregnant. My first I didn't eat much at all, was a size smaller straight after birth than I was when I got pregnant. She was 10lb 6. I was overweight with my second, he was 10lb 8. This one is measuring a bit bigger than my son was, I'm at my biggest now. I have been tested for gestational diabetes twice this pregnancy and once in my last one, I don't have it. I think genetics has a lot to do with it. My grandma and her sisters all had large babies. Some over 11lbs!

I'm 5 ft 9 and a size 12. My DS was just over 11lbs at birth. He was born on his due date. It was a straightforward home birth. I didn't have gestational diabetes.

Try not to worry.

I put on a lot of weight with my first and raised concerns with the professionals that I was going to have a big baby. I really craved sweet things and whilst I didn't purposefully overeat, I wasn't particularly careful either. My bump was huge! I had several GTT test for gestational diabetes but they were always negative. In the end I went 11 days over and she was 8lb 5oz. I'm pregnant again now, and my bump is very large again, though I'm not craving the sweet stuff as much this time and am following Slimming World with the support of my midwife (my BMI is 30+). You may well be carrying a big baby, but there's every chance you aren't as well. Hope this helps

Im 5'4 and was a size 6 before becoming pregnant, i was huge by 12 weeks and put it down to bloating. At my 20 week he was almost 2 weeks ahead of himself. I had trouble eating anything up until i was at least 3 months, either because i was sick afterwards or because i just couldnt stomach the thought of eating anything so i worried he wasnt growing enough, turns put he obviously was. My sister in law had to be induced 3 weeks early because of how big my nephew was and she also had serious problems with being sick and not wanting to eat, i dont think you can really do anything to ensure your baby is bigger or smaller, unless you are seriously malnourished which can cause to maybe growing less or eating buckets of sugar that can lead to gestational diabetes your baby will grow however he or she wants too. I also went to the midwife my sister in law before he was born and she asked would it be a hard labour (she has no pain threshold) and the midwife said you will stretch to however big or small the baby is so it doesnt always mean a hard labour x

Don't assume larger ladies eat crap. I'm a size 16 and eat very healthy and exercise regularly. In fact you're probably more likely to find that bigger ladies during pregnancy and TTC are more concours about what they eat. Of course there will be large ladies who eat crap and have massive babies, I know a few.

I only put on 2stone with dd and I'm heading for the same gain this time. I'm 5ft6 and a 10/12 usually. My bump is often described as 'very neat' and I eat well with the odd crap meal or treat. My dd was 7lb15oz and I'm expecting this baby to be in the 8lbs. I don't think what I eat makes any difference to the size of my babies. I think eating well means that I feel good and I don't put on too much weight. It was so easy to lose after dd because I just ate normally. As someone who is usually resigned to the fact that she's always going to be 'a little bit fat' I was really shocked.

I'm a bigger girl and always have huge babies, 9 and 10 pounders, and I probably eat a lot less during pregnancy than the average pregnant lady, all i want to eat is ice, Mine isn't due to GD it's apparently my genetics.

I'm 5ft 6, size 14-16.

DD was 8lb 2oz, DS was 11lb 7oz.

Didn't have GD with either and ate pretty much the same with both, if anything I ate more healthily with DS!

Erm, not always. I had it and was a size 8-10 before pregnancy, ditto two of my friends. Being overweight is one of the risk factors for developing GD, but there are quite a few others, and some people (like me) develop GD without having any of the risk factors.

I'll dismount my high horse now; as you were...

I had an awful sweet tooth on my second and she was 2lb heavier at birth than #1 and #3. So maybe there's something in that!

Well I ate absolutely loads through my pregnancies x3, put on loads of weight, pre pregnancy bmi was late 20s for the first 2 and 31 for the 3rd and I had pretty light babies: 5lb8oz, 7lb4oz, and 6lb10.

I ate a huge amount. Against my better judgement (and all good advice) I took 'eating for two' to heart (I was just so hungry!).

DD was a very average 3.5kg / 7lb 11oz.

Sorry I should add I was 5ft 5" and a neat size 16 (active and in no way impeded by my shape).

I was a size 12-14 when i fell pregnant. Didnt have any sickness or any cravings. All my dates added up and ds ended up being 11lb 0.5oz when he was born and i had no GD. In fact if you looked at me from behind i didnt look pregnant til i turned round then i was all bump Grin

I'm 5'10" and obese. DD1 was 5lb 14oz and DD2 was 6lb 8oz. I had hyperemisis though so didn't manage to keep much down during pregnancy (what I did manage was beige crap).

My understanding is that a lot of the time your baby size is genetic based on your frame and your partners.
I don't mean if you're overweight or under. I mean if you're tall, narrow framed or not etc.
