Pain when urinating and in lower right tummy

Hello,

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and keep getting sharp pain on my right side and it hurts when I urinate. Does anyone think this could be a urine infection or is is this just normal? If it could be an infection, who do I call? I wouldn't be able to get a doctors appointment this side of Christmas so that leaves the midwife or the maternity unit at the hospital. The voicemail for the midwife is only checked once a day and the hospital seems like a bit of an overreaction.

I've read about round ligament pain so I'm aware it could be this but I'm incredibly nervous as a history of recurrent miscarriage. The pain is bad now and I've been sitting still for the past couple of hours so I don't think it's to do with too much movement.

Thanks for any help

I would call the hospital. I had this at the weekend (I'm 23 weeks) and they kept me in for observation and blood tests for a few hours just to make sure nothing was amiss. It turned out to be a cyst on my ovary that was causing the pain but before they knew they were also concerned about it potentially being appendicitis or the baby in trouble too.
It really is better to be safe than sorry with this kind of thing. If you call the maternity unit of the hospital (number should be in your notes) they absolutely won't think you're wasting their time.
