Hi all.

If this comes across as I'm ungrateful I'm pregnant I really don't mean it! Unplanned but very very welcomed pregnancy. Struggling a little with all the goodies out this time of year I can't have! My work today gave me a magnum of champers and a bottle of gin (they know me well haha) and just went to the shop to buy something for dinner and walked past all the yummy looking pate and meat! Any tips for keeping my head down and busy this time of year?! X

To be perfectly honest I've carried on as normally as possible.

I've not gone as far as properly stinky unpasteurised cheese/whole bottles of wine but after a thorough risk assessment Grin I've decided that supermarket Brie, salami etc off the shelf is probably not going to cause any harm, or the occasional small glass of fizz on a full stomach.

I have drawn the line at liver pates though due to the double whammy of high vitamin A and food poisoning risk.

Have a look at Emily Oster's book 'expecting better'

I am so glad you wrote this!!!! I feel exactly the same. I'm really happy to be pregnant although it was unexpected but I'd kill for a prosecco!! I had my work xmas lunch/drinks today and had to make my excuses and leave before the drinks because I'd hate not joining in (only 5weeks so I can't even come clean!!!)

I think that's they way to do it! I think on Christmas I will have a cheeky wee glass of fizz after my meal. Yeah I'm definitely staying away from the patties. Much to my sadness, next year!

Thanks will have a look at that book :) x

Glasgow - it's so hard isn't it! The weekend I found out I had a big extended family meal and struggled so hard with everyone else indulging! Think it can take a bit of getting used to! It's hard because even thought you're really happy it's just normality this time of year especially, going out and stuff! X

I only avoid liver pate. Everything else is fine, I think. Lots if things are 'banned' because of the risk of listeria, but I've been eating unpasteurised cheese / pate / cured meats for years and have never had it yet.

Absolutely and you do feel so ungrateful but it's so hard - I definitely feel like I'm missing out and because it's such early days I can't even really just enjoy being pregnant because I keep telling myself there's a high chance of something going wrong! So I'm just sitting about with sore boobs feeling sick and wishing the 12 week scan was sooner.... pass me a bubbly!!! Grin

More than us - thanks! I've heard a few people say that, I think just everything with a bit of caution!

Glasgow - I know!! I'm 8 weeks but still trying to not get my hopes up too much! It's hard sometimes though! Haha I know, roll on August Wine haha

I have a lovely bottle of champers waiting on top of the fridge. The baby is due next month and I will be popping that cork! Saving it for the baby's birth is the perfect thing to bend my resolve to save it!

I agree that some things are likely to be fine. I had a Brie and grape sandwich last week, it was bloody lovely! This'll be my third alcohol free Christmas in a row though, really fancy a baileys or port! First one I was newly preggers with ds, second was bf (I know you can drink when bf) and this one I'll be 8 months pregnant nearly!

Yeah I'm keeping this massive bottle for August hahah! Little motivation whenever it feels hard!!

And Brie and grape sandwich sounds lush!! Can't get enough of grapes just now, 3 christmases? Does it get easier haha? 8 months :) not long to go!!

Oh God I'm struggling HARD at the moment. Unplanned but much wanted 2nd child, 21 weeks and Christmas without cocktails, wine and beer is near unbearable! I can handle not eating some of the foods but having to socialise without a glass of red is breaking me.

My mantra at the moment is "at least it's not summer". I couldn't cope not being able to sink a crisip cider in a sunny beer garden for 3 months.

I love alcohol and I bloody miss it

Oh poop! I've just had a beef wellington. Thought the pate would be fine as it's cooked. Completely forgot about vitamin A. Was a fair bit of pate too! As a one off baby should be fine right? I'm 25 week's.

Shark - yeah that's actually a good point I never thought about that!! Although I'm due end of July so as long as August is nice and sunny I'll be happy haha!

I'm sure that the amount of pate you've ate will be fine?? If you're concerned maybe just mention it to midwife but my boss said she ate all the stuff we are told not to now (wasn't advised back then) and all her children are perfectly healthy :)

Drink - you'll be fine. I'm not sure you could eat enough to make a difference in one sitting! Don't worry and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.
