Baby measuring very big at 32 weeks

I've just had my second growth scan and the baby had jumped from just about the 50th centile at 28 weeks to way over the 90th at 32 weeks. He's currently around 5lb 15oz. I know these scans can be inaccurate however I have a history of large babies, my children were both 10and a half pounds. They were both way overdue though, this one's looking at reaching that before my due date.

The doctor has just said come for 36 week scan as normal and we will see. Midwife mentioned induction from 38 weeks. Has anyone had similar measurements at this stage?

I have a 5 week old baby, he measured right on the 50th and then leapt up to the 90th I think, I had a growth scan which was also high. I had "good sized baby" written on my notes. Shock I was petrified I was going to have a monster baby, he arrived 6 days over my due date, 7lb 14. So try not to panic Smile

I think it's just with the history of having such big babies anyway it's panicking me, I expect to have a big baby but just worried this one will be way bigger than my other two

Did you have difficult labours with your others? If not, I wouldn't worry. If yes, look into your options.

Also double-check how big a baby born on the 90th centile actually is. From what I can see here the 90th is 4.5kg - about 10lb.

So far as I know, the size of the head is the critical bit.

Good luck!

First one was difficult, second wasn't so bad. He isn't on the 90th he's way above, think it said on the scan report 97th x

I have only just done a thread about this. I had a scan at 31+2 and baby was measuring 5lb 4oz. Gone from below the 90th centile to above it in 2 weeks. Baby was pretty much bang on dates for 20 week scan. My older 2 children were small and on the 12th and 16th centile, so this is also scaring me.
I haven't had any solid information from my consultant and have just got a new midwife to :/

I'd stop going to the growth scans, personally, unless you have a medical reason for needing an induction or keeping a closer eye on things. I have big babies - it's just normal for me. I declined growth scans in this pregnancy, because what's the point? Everyone will get all whipped into a frenzy over how "big" the baby is, and will push for an induction which would simply be unnecessary.

With my DS1 I had a scan at 31 weeks and they estimated his weight at 7lb 9oz. Shock

Couldn't give me an estimated birth weight as their charts didn't go up that high!

He was born at 38 weeks weighing 10lb 8oz.

So the scans were pretty accurate for me but so many others are totally out.

Serial, I was induced with my other two as they were way overdue. I personally don't want to go two weeks over again to then give birth to a 12lb baby which is what it's looking like if he carries on at the rate he is now.

Ovo there was 5 weeks and 4 days in between my sons growth scan and him being born, they said at 36 weeks he was around 7lb 2 and that he'd never get to 10lb! He was born at 41w4d and was also 10lb 8

Are you planning on an induction? If that's the case, maybe you should just skip the scans and book your date! I understand not wanting to push out a 12 pounder. :)

Yes, my other two were induced, never engaged before labour and cervix never favourable, and because of their size it's been mentioned from the start if this one was also big

My daughter was 11b 6oz when she was born at 41+2 (didn't have a scan after 20 weeks). This time around I've had scans every 2 weeks from 28 weeks and baby was measuring 6lb 6oz at 32 weeks! I've had three GTTs - which have all come back normal - and have just concluded that I have big babies! To be honest, I'd rather not have had all these scans as they do worry you - at one scan I had an excess of amniotic fluid, at the next one it was completely normal. I'm taking it all with a pinch of salt now and what will be will be.
