Where to put the baby to sleep during the day

Practical answers needed! I live in a maisonette, so front door is on the ground floor with a small hallway. You go straight up the stairs onto the first floor. Nursery is on the first floor. Our bedroom is on the second floor.

I intend to get a snuzpod for next to the bed, and I'm aware babies shouldn't sleep alone at all for the first six months - that means I need something for downstairs. I know the snuzpod comes off the stand and can be used downstairs, but this means carrying it down a flight of stairs everyday - I will be having a c-section. Is it light enough to do this? Any experience?

I hear people also put the baby down in the pram. Mine will be left in the hallway on the ground floor, so would either require leaving the baby down there, or lugging the carry cot up the stairs. Also, should the baby sleep in a pram? Bugaboo have suggested to me they shouldn't sleep in them for long periods.

So two options - but keep thinking I need something more convenient to have on the first (main) floor during the day. People tend to think Moses baskets are a waste of money? Though is it worth getting one? Or is it a waste of money to have bought the snuzpod and not use it downstairs as it is designed to do?

I have used a Moses basket for both babies, as has everyone I know. I find them convenient.

I'd get one for downstairs and just keep it there. Then you can pop the baby in straightaway if it falls asleep in your arms or whatever. I think the pram would also be ok for naps. They do fall asleep in the pram after all!

The usual problem with moses baskets is that when babies are small enough to fit in them they generally haven't quite worked out that naps are a good idea anywhere but on mum or dad. By the time they get better at sleeping the moses basket is too small.

A better option for a longer term might be a crib such as Saplings Katie or Chicco Lullago which are both bit portable and light and are bigger than moses baskets so last longer.

What about a Sleepyhead?
We used ours all the time for naps downstairs and could then carry it easily upstairs at bedtime for co-sleeping or popping in the Snuzpod so DS felt more cocooned. Pricey, but we used it all the time for about 5 months.

We have a Chicco Next 2 Me upstairs, as well as a normal cot in the nursery. For downstairs, we've got a baby hammock.
In addition, however, we've also got a sleepyhead, which might be an option if I need something that can be carried around the house.

Haven't tried it out, yet. We'll see which option DS is ok with.

I was considering the sleepyhead but got confused where you can put it down...! If I'm in the living room, can it go on the floor etc? I'm thinking if I leave the room for two secs I wouldn't want to leave it on the sofa / table top?

We had the tiny love 3 in 1 Napper for the living room and I loved it! Sad when ds outgrew it at 8mo.

Crib in our room next to the bed. No moving anything apart from the baby.

I have a TinyLove Rocker Napper. It's a bed and a chair. I love it, ds is 7.5 months and still naps in it.

My twins either slept in bouncy chairs (I know not recommended, but all twin mum's do it!) or they just conked out on their playmat during tummy time. Newborns will sleep anywhere!

I had a Moses basket and my partner would carry it up at night and bring it down in the morning. They are very light though

Sleepyhead is safe on the floor.

We use the bugaboo chameleon carrycot or he sleeps on his play mat or sometimes in his cot and I sit up there with him.

Sleepyhead fine on the floor. When they are tiny it's fine to leave anywhere but obviously once they get more mobile you wouldn't want to leave it anywhere they could roll off.

We had a moses basket and buggy but both of my children slept on me for all naps we were home for pretty much six months! Dd would occasionally drop off in her bouncy chair but mainly on me. Don't spend too much on anything!

If you don't mind second hand - you can get Moses baskets very cheaply (you may want to replace the mattress) on Facebook selling groups. I know because I can't shift mine (something I don't want to keep as they take up a lot of space). Alternately you could buy a travel cot to keep downstairs - you'll use it later when travelling but baby won't outgrow it quickly and can be a safe place to pop them when they are on the move and you need to leave them a minute.

I have a Snuzpod upstairs and find it a bit heavy so use the carrycot part of the pram downstairs on the floor (the whole pram would never fit in our tiny house so lives folded up in the car and just take the carrycot outside when I need it). I didn't get a Moses basket as we had the carrycot anyway so no point having yet another thing in the house.

During the daytime I used to use the carrycot off the pram and just put it on the floor but our carrycot was one which was suitable for overnight sleeping. He outgrew the carrycot by 4 months so I just used a travel cot after that.

Carrycot downstairs and Moses basket upstairs. But in a honesty he'd sleep on me, or his swing, or his baby gym or on the sofa. Don't need to go bonkers.

If the baby falls asleep on a walk, I would leave them in the hallway and wouldn't risk transferring.

You will probably want something for them to sleep in in the living area. Something like this is quite good and would get a bit of use over the long term.

She just keeps it in the living room. Was cheaper than most moses baskets and it's on its third child now. It fitted nicely in the corner of her living room.

We only had the crib in our bedroom upstairs. My lo always slept upstairs, even during the day. I had a video monitor to keep an eye on him, and I'd check on him regularly as well.
(I don't like Moses baskets, and I preferred lo to sleep upstairs anyway

Small babies can sleep happily on a playmat or a sofa cushion on the floor. Assuming you don't have pets or toddlers that might pester the baby!

As pp said if the fall asleep in the pram, you'll be fine to leave them on the hall and keep checking on then.

Newborns sleep about 20 hours a day so them sleeping upstairs alone seems daft to me. Lots of having to pop up and down the stairs and not particularly safe.

Looking for somewhere for baby to sleep in the main living space is sensible.
