Scan 7 weeks small fetus and slow heart :-(

We've been trying for 4 years and this is our 4th attempt with IVF. I am currently 8 weeks today but my little bean hasn't had the best of starts as of yet.

Firstly I think there were twins, I had a bleed at 5 weeks so went to dr's who arranged a scan at hospital. In the meantime we had a private scan. She showed us two sacs, both small but one being deflated and said maybe this was the cause of bleeding. Told me to come back in 10 days and in the meantime have HCG levels tested which I did and they were going up.

10 days later, at 6 weeks 4 days she found a small fetus at 3.9mm and a heart beat of 104bpm. She said we are not out of the woods yet as it's still small and heart rate is on the slow side but she was pleased as she was expecting us to have nothing there.

Anyway a week later my appt for a scan at the hospital came through. I was then 7 weeks 4 days. She took a while finding bean but when she did she said it had grown to 4.8mm and heart was slow, we saw it beating but she said it wasn't worth putting noise on or recording the bpm. We were shocked and saddened.

She has made us an appointment for a week later being Monday coming at EPU. I'm currently now exactly 8 weeks and trying to come to terms that there possibly won't be a heartbeat by Monday or we have a ray of hope that we have a slow starter.

I know I'm clutching at straws here and there isn't anyone really I could talk to. Everyone says to keep positive least there was a heartbeat etc. I do know I have a retroverted uterus and the lady at hospital made me put a foam cushion under my bum. Would this have put the baby at a different angle to take proper measurements. Also do private scanning have better machines?

I would appreciate some input. Obviously nothing is for certain till Monday. I do feel pregnant still, have a thick set waist and my boobs are quite sore but this could be the meads and plus body is trying to develop placenta. I will keep you posted on the outcome. Praying for a miracle.

I don't have any experience of this, but just wanted to say that I'm thinking of youFlowers

I would assume private and NHS scanners would be the same. And the technicians equally skilled.

Honestly try to relax as getting upset won't help. The fact that there's a heart rate is honestly good. It's hard to say if this will go up or down but there is nothing anyone can do to influence this.

Continue to eat well and drink plenty of water and look after yourself

Some babies do catch up in size but unfortunately some don't. Try to remain positive but realistic.

Thank you all!! I'm sure the machines are all the same I'm just trying to think of other things other than the worse.

I will update with how Mindays scan goes.

Similar situation here and im now 25 weeks pregnant.

Went for a scan and no embryo at 6 weeks told to come back then baby measuring about a week behind no hb yet, told to come back again and that i may miscarry, then everything looked ok, then i had a huge bleed at 11 weeks, bleed for 4 weeks and turnt out i had a heamtoma (blood clot on the placenta) was told it is a threatened misscarriage while i was bleeding, never thought i would get here but i did. Good luck and i hope your scan goes well next week. Xx

I had a lot of early scans and babies should grow 1mm per day. I know a slow heart isn't good but at least your baby grew and I wish you all the best. My baby's heart was slow at 5weeks and 3days and she told me all babies hearts start off slow and some take a little longer than others to get fast but I don't know how long that can be

Scanning machines are the same and a lot of people who work at private clinics also work at hospitals too.
I had very similar experience, I went for a scan at 6 weeks after a previous ectopic, no baby just a sac but I had a massive pocket of free fluid floating round my pelvis which was causing an immense amount of pain. I was basically told to prepare for the worst.
I returned in 10 days and there was baby. I was measuring nearly 2 weeks behind my dates.

Anyway, fast forward a few weeks, I'm now 22 weeks and baby is fine! And every other scan I had after those ones (private and NHS) baby measured within my dates.

Good luck xxx
