Hi everyone! I had the coil fitted a month ago and have had sex since then without condoms. I've never had children. I've been bleeding on and off to be expected but have been having cramps for a few days and followed by this very odd bleeding that seems like it has flesh in it? :/ can anybody please help, I'm worried I'm having a miscarriage and the coil hasn't worked. Sorry for the graphic photos.

If I was you I would take a pregnancy test. It will show positive if you are having a miscarriage.

Either way - perhaps go to the GP tomorrow.

I hope you get some answers. Must be quite frightening not knowing what's happening Flowers

I've had periods that heavy, with big clots like that. The coil can increase bleeding for the first few months until it settles down.

If you had got pregnant you'd only be a couple of weeks so too early for large peices of flesh. I think its mucus and bleeding ( poss clots) mixed together. I've not had a coil so don't know what is normal after a month with one.
Can you call NHS direct for some advice?

I've just googled "bloody mucus after coil", it looks like a common issue. Maybe phone 111 for advice?

I would do a test, the clots do seem quite heavy. Is it the copper coil?

Hi there user,
We're full of sympathy, of course, but we've removed the photos as they were really just a little bit too much for the site. Hopefully you can get the answers to your question without them now, but it looks like you've had some good advice in any case. There's no substitute for a doctor, however.

Definitely definitely not worth taking a risk. It could be an ectopic pregnancy with that sort of clotting and bleeding so make sure you get seen by hospital for a blood test to check your HCG levels and proestrogen. A pregnancy test could still be negative even if you're pregnant if your HCG is too low. Keep an eye out for sharp pains in one side and cervical twinges or sharp pains in your cervix and/or bottom. Hopefully you'll be ok but he doubly sure.
