Eye problems / contact lenses in pregnancy

Hi there,

I am 24+w pregnant and my eyes are driving me bonkers! I wear monthly contact lenses (and have done for 13 years) but at the moment continually feel as though they are cloudy, they feel like they have tears as they are scratching my eyes, I can't see as well as usual even though they are placed correctly etc. My eyes are constantly dry and itchy and I am squinting all the time.

Does anyone have any advice? I am wearing my glasses as much as possible but I hate wearing them daily and they are a bit broken so that's not ideal. Should I go to the optician and see if they have any advice or switch to (more expensive) daily lenses? Or are there any good drops I can buy?

My eyes are usually completely unbothered by my contacts so this is driving me mad!! Any advice welcome, thank you!

I had to give up on contacts when pregnant. My eyes were just too dry. I'd just get your glasses fixed.

I found that during the early months after birth that it was better just not to wear lenses - easier to have a quick nap while baby is sleeping (or feeding if you're breastfeeding).

I found very early on my lenses were feeling very dry after just a few hours and I'd have to take them out again. Have you tried eye drops? In shops such a wilkos or savers, they have some really good refreshing drops that are only about 79p. Opticians charge around £4/ £5 but I actually liked the cheaper ones better! I also have monthly ones.

I do think the tiredness of early pregnancy was in part to blame from my side as the more tired I was, the more they seemed to dry out. Hope you get some relief soon :-)
