Scan at 6+2. What to expect?

I went to EPAU today after experiencing some pain and light bleeding/spotting. Had an examination and they are happy my cervix is closed and couldn't see any sign of more bleeding, which is good.

They've asked me to come back for a scan tomorrow. I'll be 6+2. Dates are by LMP, but I had a positive ovulation test at day 13 of my cycle so dates should be pretty accurate. If all is well, would they find a heartbeat? If they don't find one is that ok at this stage or should I be worried about it?

Just want to know what to expect tomorrow really, if anyone has been through similar.

Oh, and I know it's going to be an internal scan. Joy.

I had a scan at 6+4 (also internal) and while we didn't see much (just the sac) we were lucky to see a heartbeat. You can't hear it but you can see it blinking on the scan. If they don't find one you shouldn't get too worried (easier said than done, I know), as 6 weeks is borderline too early. If they can't see it they will usually get you back for another scan a week later at which point they should see it by then.

You won't see a lot at this time. But it will be internal
Good luck

Hi cheby, not sure if you will see this before you go to your scan but I just wanted to say try not to worry (Easier Said than done, I know). We had a similar experience in my first pregnancy. Had bleeding/ spotting vat 6+ weeks so went to EPU and had emergency scan. Was given external but couldnt see anything so had to have internal. We saw the egg sac, foetal pole and a tiny flickering heart beat . Please dont worry if u dont see heart beat though as they said it was very early and we were lucky we got to see it. I know lots of people who have had similar who never saw the heart beat but when they went back a week later there it was beating away. Im trying to attact my scan pic to show u but not sure if it will work. Good luck and positive thoughts to you. Xx

I've had heavy bleeding since 5 weeks (currently almost 9) due to a sub chorionic haematoma and have had scans every 1-2 weeks so far. At 6 weeks we saw a heartbeat which looks like a little white flickering on the screen - it's lovely to see. Good luck and fingers crossed for you Flowers

You should see a sac with a fetal pole, yolk sac and a heartbeat.

I had a scan at 6 weeks and it wasn't internal. It was just like a normal scan. I could see a heartbeat at 6 weeks 0 days. Hope it goes well.

So sorry for not replying to this thread! I thought my phone hadn't posted it, I went back to look for it and could t find it. Then didn't have time to repost!

Thank you all for your comments, I really appreciate it. We had the scan, all was ok! Everything in the right place, no more evidence of bleeding, sac, fetal pole and little tiny heartbeat. 😊

Came out clutching two pics of a grey blob to treasure. 😂

Baby measured 6 weeks exactly, sonographer said could easily be out by a couple of days at this point though.

Thanks. Pregnancy symptoms have hit with a vengeance this week, so I am feeling more confident about it all, even if I am lying face down on the sofa most of the time trying not to be sick! Grin

I know the feeling! First trimester for me was absolutely awful! I started feeling a lot better once I hit second trimester so I hope the same happens for you :)

Last time round I sort of breezed through the first trimester. Didn't realise how lucky I was! I was a bit tired, that's all. This time, much worse!

Hi Cheby,

Glad to hear all is well!
I am in a similar position myself, was sent too early for a scan due to erratic periods but it turns out my last bleed that started 6 July must have been a real period and not implantation as mw thought.

So I should have been 6 weeks 5 days on Monday when I went for a scan but all they could see was a GS (14mmx9mm) and yolk sac (4.6mm). They estimated me to be about 6 weeks and too early for a fetal pole and to go back in 2 weeks.

I had some spotting before the scan which has stopped and have had the MS kick in this week.

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar results and whether these measurements seem likely for a pregnancy of 6 weeks?

Over a whole week to wait and it seems like an eternity.
