Help! Ideas for healthy but FILLING snacks before I become the size of a house!

Penguin13 · 17/08/2016 15:59

Only 8 weeks pregnant with DC2 and am constantly ravenous. Every day I have resolutions to eat a bit more moderately but am filled with the kind of crazed hunger that makes me reach for the nearest thing. I was exactly the same first time around and it did calm down in the end though I probably put on weight a little more rapidly than ideal. What's everyone eating to satisfy their hunger without filling up on sugar and fat? Spam me your snack ideas please and save me from the greggs in the garage about 20 metres from my office myself! And my sincere apologies to those suffering morning sickness who probably wish they had this 'problem'.

Oatcakes or similar with a nut butter, meridian do loads of alternatives to peanut if you are avoiding them. Full of protein so should keep you fuller for longer.

Oatcakes/veggies sticks/ Apple with houmous. Again lots of protein to keep you full.

Following as I ate massive bar of fruit and nut today (baby needed it!)

Ooh yes I love peanut butter definitely have not in extremis eaten it off a teaspoon straight from the jar. Oh no not me Blush

Perhaps a bit more protein for breakfast would be a good idea to set me up for the day.

Apple cut up and dipped in Pb is a yum snack.
Also crackers are good with butter if I'm hungry.

I had sickness plus ravenous hunger in the first trimester. Eating eggs on toast filled me up between breakfast and lunch. Drinking sparkling water made me feel fuller too, if that helps at all? The constant gorging should die down in a few weeks Flowers

Hard boiled eggs.
Cottage cheese.
Fruit
Apple sauce
Veg sticks and hummus
Ryvita and peanut butter or avocado

Try and eat more protein and fat

You could also make a big batch of lentil and veg soup and have that.

I'm 9 weeks and seem to be starving all the time.
If I have a full English I find I don't get hungry for like 7 hours.
Although can't have that before work.
So jacket potatoes for lunch it is

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Having porridge for breakfast this morning too so hopefully that should keep the hunger at bay for a while although weirdly I never find it fills me up for quite as long as others claim it should.

I'm jealous, I'm full up after a couple of raspberries for like five hours. I pine for my old appetite. No morning sickness though thankfully. Grin protein is filling - so eggs, chicken, nuts

Stay away from simple carbs, for sure. They made me balloon up during my first trimester, although I was in survival mode and desperate for anything. When the hunger strikes, it's hard not to grab a scone (or three)!

Whoop whoop. Had a good night's sleep last night as DD's cold has abated and it seems to have helped calm my hunger down too. So far have had porridge and cucumber sticks with houmous. Just call me Saint penguin Grin

For breakfast today I had museli with 0% fat greek style yoghurt squeeze of honey and lots of chopped strawberrys and red Berrys ,,, don't put too much museli in though or it's horrid and gloopy! I'm usually a toast girl but am trying to cut back on the amount of bread I eat and introduce some fruit back in my life !

Penguin13 · 18/08/2016 11:54

That sounds lovely Mrs. Don't know why having muesli hasn't occurred to me for those hungry mornings when I'm in a rush.

I found rice the best thing. You can get micro pouches and pots. Boring but filling. Also pasta pots. I work for Greggs, so I have to try very hard to avoid temptation! Although morning sickness certainly helped with that!

Titchy you work for Greggs?! Envy My only craving thus far has been Greggs vegetable pasties, I used to get them whenever I passed a Greggs, but they seem to have stopped doing them, and replaced them with a veggie alternative pasty that looks and tastes like a soup filling?! Would you know if they have discontinued them full stop, or just in the Greggs local to me? Tres disappointed if I can never again have one Sad

Sadly it's a permanent change in all Greggs. It's vile as cheese based. I miss the old potato based recipe one. It was my favourite too.

I feel like I have performed a public service starting this thread and allowing the sad greggs news to be confirmed. The meat pasties are rank. It's all about the donuts from where I am standing. Thank God I don't work for greggs or I would eat all my wages Blush

2 words for you. Chicken. Pasty.

I'm 9w5d and have just left the kitchen with a plate of crackers and peanut butter the size of which caused my husband to remark mildly "poor you, you must be starving."
Blush
It's the crisps that are killing me. I feel a bit sick so have some crisps, feel better, eat a massive tea, feel remorse, weigh myself the next day, gnash teeth, feel sick, repeat repeat repeat.
Be honest. How much weight have you put on since the bfp?

Report
readingrainbow · 18/08/2016 18:58

From the bfp to my booking in at 12 weeks, I gained 8kg. Sad

I really have no idea what I weigh now, nor do I care to know.

Wine you get sympathy from DH?! Shock I get the walk of shame from my kitchen to wherever I choose to flop down my pg body to consume my mammoth amount of food, as DH will look incredulous upon my plate and remark "Are you going to eat all that?!" Blush

I only get respite from the nausea when I'm eating... Sad Crossing everything that the weight drops off with breastfeeding, like it did with DD. Otherwise..... Blush

The other day ds said to dh "did she start off with a lot less than us?" because all my lunch was gone and they had barely started. They all had a good laugh at greedy old mummy. Hmm

It's so hard when you're feeling hungry enough to eat your own left leg! I'm finding oat based cereals for breckie with some fruit mid morning keeps me going for a while (used to have porridge but haven't been able to stomach it since I got pregnant), a wholemeal wrap with lots of chicken and salad for lunch followed by a Muller rice and something with pasta or rice for tea is the best way for me to stay full. Also carrots sticks & hummus or guacamole are great fillers if you're hungry and stay away from products labelled as low fat because it's the fat and protein that keeps you full.

I had a high BMI to start with so I'm very conscious of gestational diabetes so I'm trying to make healthy choices. Got a blood glucose test in a few weeks that I just know is going to be awesome! Hmm I can see it all going to pot when great British bake off starts at the end of August! Grin
