DTD on ovulation day only? I think I might have ovulated earlier than expected and I was away prior to this so we might have got lucky and done it the day before, but there's a chance that it was actually ovulation day. I've read mixed information on whether or not that would be too late. Just wondering if anyone has any experience?

Yes, twice. We'd taken a break from ttc with my last pg, and we'd been trying for months and nothing was happening. The month we took a break we made sure we dtd (just once) outside of my ovulation window, 6 days prior to my expected ov date (I was tracking) Totally shocked but thrilled to miss my period and get a bfp. First scan showed from measurements that I must have ov'd 6 days early, on the day we dtd. What a fluke?! But our baby was poorly and we lost him at 17 weeks.

6 months later, the same thing has happened again!!! Not really trying after our terrible loss, dtd 6 days earlier than ov date again, and I got another bfp. I'm 13 weeks now and all looks good so far.

From my experience, I honestly believe, when it's meant to be it will be. All you need is to dtd once, with just the one determined little swimmer Wink

Good luck x

Thank you for your reply. Such an interesting story to have ovulated so much earlier completely by chance!!

So sorry to hear about losing your son though, that must have been so hard. Good luck with this pregnancy Smilexx

I know, and twice. It's crazy! We really have no control over these things, no matter how much research we do, how expert we are in charting, how much we spend on ov supplies.... Confused

Thank you, it's the hardest thing you can ever face, losing a child. We have an amazing 3 yr old DD so we feel very blessed, she's helped us through. We're praying it works out for us this time, she will be an awesome big sister Smile

If you have the slightest, niggling feeling you could be pg, despite your head telling you it might not be possible, just go with it Wink Grin

Yeah I think you're right. Strange things seems to happen all the time when TTC. Some months you do everything right and nothing eh!

That's great that you have a DD as well. I have a DS and he definitely makes TTC easier than it was last time!

Will you find out what you're having?

I'm having my dating scan this morning (eek!) Had 2 early scans so far, after losing my son last year my consultant wanted to check baby for any signs of it happening again, but so far so good, so hoping they don't spit anything untoward and I can relax a bit...

Yes, I'll find out the gender Smile I like to be organised and prepared - I think it helps everyone in the family to bond with the baby if it has an identity? I also found that knowing DDs name in labour helped push her out - I kept repeating it to myself over and over whilst pushing to help me to focus (4 pushes and she was out!) Wink x

I must have done judging by scan dates and when the deed was done. It's even more unlikely since my OH had a count of 125. Not million, just 125. (it's an improvement from the singular, non mobile sperm seen on the previous analysis...)
The baby is currently sleeping next to me!

Good luck malbec and you are one of the lucky ones. When do you plan on testing? Fx fx

Ooh how was your scan kittens? Yeah I agree, I found out I was having a boy for the same reason! I also had a super fast labour, less than a minute pushing apparently!

Wow that's amazing Sephi. I bet that was a real shock for you!

Thanks mimi! I only test if AF is late so it wouldn't be until the end of next week. Can't see it happening though! How are you?

Oh no how frustrating. I wonder if you've skipped a period? Are you tracking ovulation at all? Thanks, I'll come on and let you know what happened next week. I really don't feel like this is my month at all though!

Possibly, we were taking a month off trying as we had family staying and only had sex once during my fertile days (cos we were tipsy) I don't know exactly when I ovulated but we must have got the timing right as I'm just into the second trimester now!

It was a a huge shock - I only tested because my period was due and the test expired the next month. We weren't trying and we weren't preventing (mostly because we thought there was nothing to prevent - we didn't find out about the count until after I was pregnant, we were still assuming 1) I fell over the bath in shock xD

Scan went well, no sign of anything to worry about and I'm due 25th January Grin Cannot tell you how relieved and emotional I was to get my Bounty pack Blush after the significance of not being given it last time x

Thanks charming.

I bet you did Sephi! Have you just got the one?

Congratulations kittens so pleased for you! I can't remember what you get in your bounty pack now? Is it various creams and vouchers?! I was due on 28th Jan with my DS!

Malbec I had a free pregnacare trial pack (7 days) with some sudocreme. Being given the pack and the Bounty wallet to keep my maternity notes in (this is Wales, is it different elsewhere?!) was a symbol to me of the fact that the midwidfe believed I'd get to actually take my baby home this time x

Sephi Such a lovely story Smile I didn't think it was possible to be pg either and only tested when I did because I was watching an episode of Friends and Monica was testing Hmm I remembered I had some tests that were 'going to waste' and thought I might as well... Confused Grin x

Good luck Malbec x

We only dtd once on Ov day with DS2. No reason why it wouldn't be possible, good luck OP.

Ovulation day is considered to be the best time for insemination for those ttc via fertility treatment, so I'm sure the chances are pretty good!

Yes, just the one. We were planning on starting the ball rolling with ivf this year, so I'm blooming glad it asset required - I was already starting to freak out about the injections!
Where abouts in Wales are you? If you have the option, I would really recommend Ystrad Ysbyty Fawr - the birth centre was amazing, didn't feel like a hospital, more like a hotel!

Sephi haha! Grin I was actually at YYF yesterday! It's only 15 mins from where I live Wink I would absolutely love to give birth there, but as it's only a MLU my worry is that, if my BP goes haywire like it did in labour with DD I wouldn't want to get rushed to the Royal Gwent Sad So, after the 20 week scan my care will be transferred to the Royal Glam where I had DD (we were living closer to Llantrisant at the time)

Sorry to hijack the thread Malbec Smile

The Gwent was my local. I had a meltdown at my midwife and she suggested that if I got discharged from consultant care then I could go to YYF. Else I would have gone to Abergavenny. The Gwent gives me the heebie jeebies. I did nearly get transferred to the Gwent though, they only let you push for an hour, and I was pushing in total for an hour and a half. Didn't find out until after though, which I am glad about!

I was in and out of the Gwent with HG last time, and the Consultant there wasn't sensisitive towards us about our son's condition (to say the least) and was speaking as if she'd already written him off at 12 weeks. To cut a long and upsetting story* short, when I had to face the fact that I was losing my son at 17 weeks I asked for my care to be transferred to Nevill Hall. The Consultant there was fantastic and ensured I got extra scans this time around. The travel was a pain though as it's an hour away, and now I've been 'released' to YYF after my scan yesterday Wink

  • when I relayed my experience at the Gwent to the YYF Midwife yesterday she said my story actually made her ashamed of her profession

Unfortunately, that doesn't surprise me, given the care my OH had when he was referred to the Gwent as an emergency case. There were 3 people in the waiting room who had been there since the night before, in chairs. After spending 8 hours there they sent us home to come back the next day. Those people in the waiting room were still in the waiting room. We got turned away saying we would get an appointment in the post (for suspected appendicitis) we went back to the doctors and got re-referred to Abergavenny. He was admitted straight away and turned out he had a double bowel rupture.
