I'm 38+6 and being induced due to hypertension and obstetric cholestasis. Just had the gel put up and apparently my cervix is completely closed. Does this mean it's going to take forever? Anyone have any experience, positive or negative I can take it.

I've told this story before but, I was induced at 37 weeks for OC. If I recall correctly(i was 1cm) Gel at 2pm, went for a walk about hospital grounds & had bad period like pains at 5pm. contraction by 7 pm but nothing awful, didn't need anything pain relief wise at that point.
They were going to do a second gel after the midwife shift change but before they got to me my waters broke at 10 pm & labour progressed ver quickly after that & My ds was born at 1.40 am just gas & air, it did get intense & I wanted an epidural but by the time they'd got me into a delivery room it was the to push & in hindsight I think wanting the epidural was just a confidence thing.
Obviously no guarantees op but I found my induction experience really positive (originally I'd been quite anti hospital & wanted a home birth ) have really nice memories of playing games with do waiting for it all to kick off.
Hoping you have a positive experience too & are soon holding you lovely baby.

I had 3 lots of the gel as DS2 was nowhere near ready to come out. Keep moving- I spent most of the time on the bouncy ball.

Took about 24 hours to get me into established labour, then about 2 hours of labour.

No pain relief (gas and air for my internals only, I was seriously clamped shut).

Good luck. Feels like an eternity while your stuck on the induction ward, but your baby will be here before you know it.

Well it's been a few hours. Just a dull period sort of ache so far. Dp is bored stiff bless him. His friend who lives within the hospital grounds has offered him his sofa so I'm sending him away about 8ish if nothing happening. Good to hear positove stories from others. I guess it's just the waiting game that's so frustrating.

Good luck OP. My 1st pregnancy was induction with pessary. Had it in morning, started mild contractions in the night, and nxt day waters broke. By tonight you may start having mild contractions, hopefully. Wishing you an easy birth. CakeFlowers

Well sent DP home at 2 becasue nothing was happening. Rang him back up at 3 because the contractions had started and they were rolling me to the labour ward as he came in. I was begging like a mad woman for an epidural, screaming the place down and was pushing as the anaesthetist was talking me through the procedure, pretty sure I swore at her for not coming quick. Baby boy was born at 5:38 Smile
