Pregnancy

Coeliac disease and increased risk of Pre eclampsia

Evening All Smile

I'm currently c.11 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. At my booking appointment my midwife said I should take asprin from 12 weeks as I have coeliac disease and that puts me at a higher risk of preeclampsia.

This is because coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition, and any autoimmune condition ticks the box for higher risk.

Didn't have asprin for baby 1 (was referred to consultant due to coeliac but they took one look at me and signed me off for birth centre/midwife led care etc). Had normal birth, healthy weight, all fine.

Did have a 1.5ltr PPH with baby 1. And i had a miscarriage at 11weeks back in January. Not sure if either of these are relevant but you never know!

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this? Not adverse to taking asprin, but wonder if coeliac really is an indicator. Can't find anything to suggest it is

I'm a coeliac and currently 28 weeks with DC2. I was under the consultant for a few months in both pregnancies due to CD, then discharged as its well managed.

Not heard of the aspirin thing. Weirdly have the same history as you, PPH & MMC at 11 weeks and it not changed any of my care.
