Seen heartbeat but dropping hcg

I had a scan on Monday but nothing was seen other than a sac and a cyst.

I was referred to EPU the same day where my hcg levels were 7000. 48 hours later I went for more blood to be taken and came back at 6800. I was told yesterday I would lose the baby.

Today I went for a scan to see if anything had hanged and to decide what to do next. It was a complete shock but today on the internal scan we saw a tiny bean with a healthy heartbeat. They said I am 5wks 6days.

I now need to go back for another scan in two weeks to check the progress.

Has anyone else had this?

I am now in shock as I had spent the last 24 hours so upset.

Horrible that you were told you'd lose it, just on the basis of your hcg. Wonderful that you've since found a healthy heart beat. My hcg & progesterone levels are being monitored just now at 6 weeks, after ivf. We've been told that progesterone levels can fluctuate quite a lot so, as hcg is also a hormone, I'd imagine it would too.

In this instance they should be re checking you're hcg levels every 48_72 hours not just putting you in that stressful situation

Could it be a vanishing twin? Where you did have twins but one didn't continue to grow, hence the drop in hcg? If your hcg is repeated then it should increase again

the difference between 7000 and 6800 is NOT a basis to assume miscarriage..the numbers are still too low to determine the cause for the drop..you should be having blood tests from now every 48 hours. Not fair that you have to wait two weeks :(
Hope everything
turns out well for you...congrats on the heartbeat!
