Being weighed in pregnancy

I'm now 25 weeks and quite surprised I've not been weighed since my booking appointment. When do they usually weigh you next?

Hmmmm thinking about it I don't think I was weighed other than at booking! Maybe they just do it if there's cause for concern around your weight gain or lack thereof? My BMI was 33 at booking (obese) and even then they didn't weight me again.

I'm actually consultant led because of my bmi and the issues related to it and I've only been weighed once (I'm 28 week on tuesday) midwife asks me how the eating a going and measures bump but other than that hasn't bothered. I wonder if it'd because there's not much that can be done about it beyond giving you advice about diet.

Tbh I'm so relieved they haven't weighed me again since booking as I dread to think how much I've put on since!

I wasn't weighed at all in any of my PGs (I think I was asked weight at first appointment, but no-one checked).

This was late 90s and early 00s

I was only weighed at my booking in appointment with both DC, my midwife says they don't weigh you at other appointments now.

When they did my pre-op the day before my elcs. Other than that I don't think they weigh you unless you are under or over weight to start with, but if you ask the midwife I'm sure they would if you wanted to be.

Can i just ask kay im 24 weeks and apart from the first midwife appt and the one at 20 weeks not seen the midwife. You 25 weeks and accoring to nhs website you have another midwife appt around then. Have you? If so did you have to arrange it. In answer to your question ive only been weighed once at first midwife appt.

Londonrach I had a mw apt at 16 weeks, anomaly scan at 20 weeks, next one is the 25 week one. I've only been weighed at the booking apt as well and never since. I was also wondering if this was standard procedure because I'm 23 weeks and weigh circa 5lbs less now than I did at my booking.

I wasn't weighed ever. I just gave my weight at the booking appointment.

I've heard of other people being weighed all the way through and wondered why they hadn't bothered with me. Ive been weighing myself every week anyway and checking online.
London I had appointments at 8 weeks, scan 12 weeks, appointment 16 weeks, scan 20 weeks, appointment 22 weeks and have one booked for 28 weeks. I don't think you should have to ask I never have. Maybe give them a call

My (very fat) friend was weighed at every appointment. Maybe they only weigh you if they think there is cause for concern?

Good practice is to weigh at booking to calculate an accurate BMI which allows risk assessment and care planning. After that it not done unless there is a specific concern.

I'm 36 weeks with first baby. Only weighed once at booking appt. I asked my midwife why I've not been weighed more and it's because I've not put any extra weight on (more so than normal during pregnancy) and all the other tests (blood pressure, fundal heart rate, etc) appear normal. If you're worried about your weight speak to your midwife but seriously all the other tests are the ones to think about.

At booking and just recently at my 36 weeks appt. There was a space for the mw to fill it in on my form, although she didn't explain why.

Just at my booking appointment and then at 36 weeks here. If they aren't concerned then they don't need to.

Weighed at 12 week scan and that's it. May have been weighed at booking but I don't remember being. Weighed myself last week and have put on 5lb ish since 12 weeks which I'm fine with.

My community MW doesn't weigh me but they weigh me at the hospital every appointment, I'm consultant led and they are checking to see I'm putting on weight as they were a bit worried that I wasn't. I have steroid induced GD and other pre-existing medical conditions and am on insulin.

I was weighed in my booking appointment with this baby, but wasn't when pregnant with DD. The morning DD was born, I was walking into the delivery suite and the MW said "ooo the scales are right near the door, we won't just walk past them without using them" - so I was randomly weighed about 2 hours before I gave birth

I got weighed at booking and again at 28 weeks. Annoyed me a bit actually as my BMI at booking was 32 and I only put on just under a kilo due to being very careful with my diet (gestational diabetes has been diagnosed) and the midwife told me my BMI had increased slightly because of that and told me off! No allowing for gain due to baby, fluid etc. I wasn't told to avoid weight gain and was pleased that I gained so little. Ah well, I've carried on eating carefully and all my maternity clothes are becoming too big for me now at 34 weeks.

In our health trust, the reason they weigh you in booking in is they need to write your BMI on the form for your scan. This is because only certain scanning machines in our hospital are powerful enough to 'see' through lots of fat so they need to make sure they don't have a full scan clinic of larger ladies as there wouldn't be enough suitable equipment available.
They don't check your weight throughout pregnancy.
