Pregnancy

5+4 weeks with mild cramping and spotting - freaking out!

Hi all,

I'm 5 + 4 weeks pregnant and incredibly nervous after a mc feb 2015 which was one of the most painful and worst experiences of my life.

I've had mild cramping, pinching and pulling for the last week which seemed normal and had no bleeding so wasn't worried at all. Plus, boobs are enormous and really sore, brushing my teeth is causing a lot of gagging along and have some serious hormonal rage! However in the last 2 days I've experienced some spotting on and off and whilst the cramping/pinching is incredibly mild I'm super worried. It's been a pink/brown wipe, certainly nothing to wear a pad or anything for and not always there.

Am so concerned :( anyone else have this? I'm putting myself on bed rest anyway but should I be calling the doc in the morning? I'm so anxious I can't be rational! I'd love some advice.

I had exactly the same at about 5 weeks. A bit of pink, a bit of brown, only when wiping. Light cramps, a bit of pinching pain. Am now 9+1 and have seen a nice strong heartbeat on a couple of separate occasions.

I think it's totally normal so try not to worry (easier said than done, I know it freaked me right out!!). Given your history I wouldn't want to say for sure that it's normal so maybe do call the dr but you'll probably find they say there's nothing they can do and you just need to wait it out (although again, given your history, they may see you).

In the meantime, take a nice warm bath (not too hot!), watch some crappy TV and try to get some rest. It's almost certainly nothing to worry about.

Oh bless you, how worrying. Spotting in pregnancy is far more common than people will have you believe, and it doesn't always mean a mc.

Can you self refer to your local early pregnancy clinic?

I did ring the EPU but they said I can't self refer unless I'd had more than 2 miscarriages - I was sobbing down the phone and the midwife was pretty off with me. I wasn't impressed. I'm hoping it's a pointless call to the doc in the morning...

Because of last year I've already booked an early scan for next weds but I tell you, it seems a million years away right now.

I had heavy red bleeding and could have sworn it was a mc at 6 weeks. Hospital made me wait 6 days for a scan!!!!! And no compassion. Went private and saw a strong heartbeat and saw the bleed was clearing up. Sonographer also gave me info about the bleed, the baby and what to do next and really reassured me! Now 7ws and just seen the heartbeat again!!!

There is hope

Have you had clots?

Oh how silly of the EPU. call the GP and I'm sure he'll refer you on.

Don't worry about mild cramping, it's also normal. My miscarriage pain has been unmistakable!

No clots yet and it's still spotting rather than bleeding at the moment - though it's been ten minutes so I'll be off to check again!!

I really hope I'm overreacting - it's so difficult because last time I didn't get much warning so I don't have much to compare it to.

Spotting is so common! My doctor told me that 50% of women get it at some point in pregnancy even though we never see that statistic in books or online

I know its hard not to worry, i was the same. I was able to try and sleep through the night after coming home from a&e, and when i woke up i booked a scan for 10:30 down the road, luckily they had availability!

But the odds are with you, chances are it will be absolutely fine! Try to think about the positives, thats how i got through

Your body is built to do this
You were able to conceive and implant
You have symptoms
Spotting is common
Miscarrying is unlikely
Its very likely you will continue the pregnancy absolutely fine

Try and relax, eat some comfort food and go to bed. There's nothing you can do but look after yourself at this stage, do it for you and baby 😊 Will be thinking of you

I was in agony with cramping at the beginning it's completely normal! (Uterus stretching out and this can cause some spotting).

Fingers crossed all is okay but it sounds like you need to relax! A calm body is a healthy body for your baby.

Hope to hear back from you Thanks
