What do you put newborn to sleep in?

Just wondering what you put your newborn in to go to sleep? A sleeping bag? Swaddle? I know that the hips shouldn't be swaddled but have seen some blankets that just swaddle the arms, or something else?

DD had a peanut which she wore with a vest but she was born in the summer so it was very hot!

I swaddled bottom half with an aden and anais muslin swaddle, was nice and light for the summer when she was born.

My oldest we swaddled but my youngest hated being swaddled so we used a sleeping bag- plenty are fine from newborn, just check the neck isn't so large it could go over their face.

We swaddled DD with a waffle blanket - we had been given special swaddling blankets but couldn't really figure out how they worked Confused
After about 6 weeks she was in the smallest size sleeping bag

We just dressed her in a vest and sleepsuit with a blanket to begin with (May baby). Then when she was big enough we put her in a Grobag.

We did try to swaddle her but she was having none of it!

Swaddle for dd2.

Dd1 went straight into sleeping bag. They were both big babies, nearly 9 and 10lb.

Vest and sleepsuit. DD hated being confined at all and would kick off all blankets. Tried a sleepbag but she would get pissed off and upset because she couldn't get it off. She was a big, weirdly strong baby though.

Vest, Sleepersuit and a fleecy blanket. DS was a march baby and it was still quit chilly but he was quite big and strong baby 9lb 4. When he was big enough he went straight into a sleeping bag - they are great. Tried the swaddle thing - he wasn't having any of it!

Vest, babygro and swaddled in blankets until about 8-10 weeks when she started wrestling her arms out, then we moved to sleeping bags. I never swaddled her legs straight (if that what the hips thing is?), but left that part looser so they could fall into a natural sleeping position. Unless she fell asleep on the play mat, then I just popped a couple of blankets on and tucked them in around her Smile

I'm using grobags.

We use a vest, nightie kind of thing and a grobag.

This is the thing I mean, makes night changes so much easier!!

Quick hijack, if I may, to ask a related question? - I like the idea of grobags, but are the incompatible with Moses baskets?

I am confused with grow bags too. We bought the one starting at 0 years but it is still massive and not sure if it's okay to tuck the bottom bit round the Moses basket mattress or not. I guess it depends how big my baby will be when she arrives but the bag looks huge!

Yes tuck and end in.

Grobag. It's fine in a Moses basket.

Vest and a sleep suit. Dd2 (3 months) resists all blanket attempts and seems warm enough (room is 19-20°C at night). I'll try her again with a sleeping bag when she moves into cot.

We used those bundles too (with a vest under), great for night time nappy changes. Both my boys had their sleeping bags too from a couple of weeks old.

Vest + sleepsuit + sleeping bag. Wool if cold.

We used a vest, sleepsuit and blanket for our DS1 (may baby) and for DS2 (due very soon!) we have a newborn sleeping bag ready.

Thanks for all of your replies!

Has anyone tried the Gro-snug. Half a swaddle (arms only) legs can move freely from the Gro Company.

We're using a Gro-snug, DD was 9lb 13oz so has been arms out from day 1. It fits a lot better than the 0-6 Babasac we have, which seems enormous. However, DD is now 10lb at 3 weeks and I suspect she'll have outgrown it in the next 3-4 weeks. It's great for the early days but depending on the size of your baby you may find they outgrow it quite quickly.
