I had my best friend and love of my life out to sleep at home on friday. Buddy my lovely yorkshire terrier was 14 1/2 and he had been my best friend since i was 19. I am finding it incredibly hard, its like no grief I have ever felt before even losing family members. I Just wanted to know if anyone had been through a similar experiance of grief whilst pregnant? I have had some people say to me dont get upset you bave the baby to think about and you dont want to harm the baby, but this just makes everything worse as I am broken but now have the added guilt that I may be causing damage to my baby. Would be grateful for anyone wanting to share their experiences with me.

I'm so sorry about your dog, it's heartbreaking.

Don't feel guilty about being upset. As long as you're eating and drinking the baby will be fine. Flowers

We had our 6 year old lab pts on 17th January. I was 8 weeks pregnant at the time. He had cancer so knew it was coming but it's been so tough, I miss him desperately.

So sorry you lost your beloved dog. Be kind to yourself.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I am pregnant and my dog has been very ill this week, I've been worried sick about him. I can only imagine how hard it is to lose your best friend right now.
Don't listen to anyone who says you are harming your baby. Plenty of pregnant women go through grief and go on to have healthy babies. Worrying about causing harm will only make this time worse for you.
Give yourself a few days of doing whatever you need re food and sleep and then try to get back into a pattern of healthy eating and restful nights.
Try to find someone more understanding to talk through your grief with, who won't tell you not to be upset.

You aren't harming your baby by being upset. I guess people are saying that with good intentions, but it's actually a really cruel idea to put in your head, and has no basis in fact. Just make sure you're eating and drinking enough. Sorry about your dog.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My beautiful boy was put to sleep before I was pregnant this time but I get upset thinking about how he cuddled my bump last pregnancy but can't this time. Let yourself be upset, you won't hurt the baby. It does get easier to live with.
DD has an imaginary version of our boy and it still makes me upset and also happy that he'll always be with us in some way.

I'm so sorry you've lost your dog Sad as others have said grieving will not harm your baby. You need to grieve and people should understand this.
I'm 20 weeks pregnant and my dog is 16, he's started to go downhill the past year, I really hope he gets to meet his little brother. I don't know what I will do without him.
Please take care of yourself and take all the time in the world to grieve.

Also I would like to add that my aunt said she found losing her dog harder than losing her father. This isn't unusual.

I'm so sorry. I know how much our pets are our friends and family members too. Of course you will be very sad, and that's ok. Stay hydrated, eat and be kind to yourself. Also, don't be afraid to talk to someone - even pet bereavement helplines or the Samaritans - keep posting here as well if you want x

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear of your heartbreaking news. I wanted to offer my sympathies. I am a Veterinary Nurse and I see on an almost daily basis the pain that owners go through on losing their beloved pets and family members. What you are going through is a normal grieving stage and I wanted to ask you if you had considered looking at the Ralph site or calling the blue cross pet bereavement line to talk to someone who might be able to help you understand and come to terms with your loss and help you through the bereavement. It may be beneficial to you. It is a very stressful time and that is not helped by your pregnancy hormones or by the fact that you are also worrying about your baby in the process. Please feel free to message me if you want any further support/advice. I wish you all the best.

I might add that the Ralph site was set up by a Vet I know of and is a brilliant source of information and help for grieving owners. It is well worth a look.
