Insomnia

Losing the plot here.

I have always been a bad sleeper - my average to fall asleep is 1.5 hours, however I then sleep heavily through.

I am 11 weeks today and since being pregnant it is taking 3+ (sometimes up to 5) hours to fall asleep, then I will wake up at 4, 5 and 6 am, making a total of three hours sleep if I'm lucky. I can be sleepy all evening and then cannot sleep in bed. (Also can't actually fall asleep on the sofa, as looked at that as an option).

I do follow the rules of good sleep hygiene - limit screens before bed, I don't drink any caffeine at all, and read a book in bed.

Any advice??

No advice but just to say you aren't alone. I could have written this post myself.Flowers
I'm 21 weeks now and my sleep is better but I basically only sleep through every 3-4 days.

This is so very very common. You are not alone and will see posts on here about insomnia all the time.

I suffered badly with pg1 and it nearly killed me. Or more to the point I had to be careful not to kill each person who suggested a glass of warm milk!

It went almost immediately after I gave birth. So even though my sleep opportunities were shorter with feeding times, i slept much better.

I am almost half way through pg2 and clocked insomnia "the return" coming back from as early as 5 weeks.

Sooooo, i got myself a couple of sessions of acupuncture. I can't prove they did anything but things are definitely better most of the time. It still takes me a while to get to sleep but no where near as long. My friend also gave me some "mum and me bump" spray which she had left over and I reckon it helps.

Having said all that if I have anything on my mind, ie work event, house stuff to sort, scan! Then nothing on this earth will help me.

Sorry I can't offer you a cure. But if you find one, you will be a rich lady. Trust me.

Big hugs

Me too wizard Thanks it's bloody awful. This week has been particularly bad when yesterday I was awake from 4 and in the office until 7. I feel ill because of it.

No advice just - misery loves company!

I will try the spray!

I'm supposed to be going for acupuncture for back pain so hopefully that will help sleep too.

I nearly cried at the asda pharmacist today when she said she could offer nothing to help Grin

Company in the misery does actually help Grin

I'm the same at the minute, so desperately tired but cant seem to stay asleep for very long. I know its making my nausea worse too as everything in the world is crap when you are tired. If I'm not getting up for a wee in the night, its that my mouth is so dry I have to drink. Arrrggghhhhhh remind me why I got pregnant, the good part seems a lifetime away. Today I feel like shit!

The spray is sleep mist. And let them know you are suffering from insomnia when you go for acupuncture. It might be different pressure points. Also, with acupuncture, the guy I saw told me it is cumulative, so the effects don't wear off after a week like a massage, but each session builds on previous sessions. He also told me it can take a couple of weeks to take effect. And it is because of this that I believe acupuncture had an effect for me because it was two or three weeks later I noticed an improvement. I would have like to have more sessions but funds ran out.

Thank you loopy Smile. My midwife has given me the number of NHS acupuncture, provided by my hospital so fortunately it's free.

Today is the first day I've felt really sick in two weeks, I feel your pain Whitey!

I know this very much isn't everyone's cup of tea, but my sister suffered terribly for years with insomnia and what worked for her was a session of hypnotherapy and ever since, she's had no problems. That was about a year ago!

This was me in my first trimester! My sore boobs and not being comfortable were the main culprits.

I found that after my scan it weirdly just seemed to stop. I also bought a 12ft wraparound pregnancy pillow which I started using really early to get used to it and I credit that to the sleep change too.

I now sleep 10pm-8am every night! Currently 19+5. Making the most of it!! 😂😂
