Pregnancy

31 weeks increased movement, nausea, aching etc is this normal?

I've hit the 31 week mark with baby no.1 and up till this point it's really all been pretty great but yesterday evening i started feeling sick, a bit weak/dizzy and generally, a bit like crap.

Baby has always been fairly active but yesterday and last night, through the night, this morning, the movement felt like it's been non-stop. I know reduced movement is something you should check out, but increased? is the feeling nauseous which is not helped by severe aching between shoulder blades and neck, just something i skipped early on and am making up for now? oh, and my bump feels rock solid and huge.

I do have a consultant appointment and growth scan next week so dont want to make a nuisance of myself and cause a fuss if this is, as i suspect, just one of those lovely aspects of pregnancy i have until now avoided and the increased movement is in fact, just the same amount but more noticeable as there is less space.

guess im being a sap and looking for reassurance!

My last pregnancy was 5 years ago and I'm only 21 weeks this time so can't really comment but I would say just give your midwife or hospital a call, they will either tell you to get checked or its normal x

Any significant change in your baby's pattern of movement should be investigated. This includes increased movement. So yes, I would phone your midwife and ask to be checked.

Had exactly the same issue - increased movement, nausea, hard bump, etc at 32 weeks. Ended up getting checked the next day as it then felt like movement had decreased. For me, it was that he'd swapped over to breech - so lots of frantic flipping over then burying his head in my stomach. But they thanked me for coming in as this is just the type of change in movements they want to check. Shoulder / neck pain doesn't sound good either. Do keep at them and hope you feel better soon.

As pp said, any change should be checked. You won't be a nuisance.

Yes, please go get checked. Nausea and shoulder pain at this stage can be a sign that something isn't quite right, so they will be happy to check and reassure!

Have you called the maternity unit OP?

Morning all, sorry for the late reply. I did phone the midwife unit and was put through to triage, they were lovely and made me feel i wasn't causing a fuss.

They did say (as did many of you) that any change in movement should be checked but as it feels back to normal now they said to just keep an eye and to come in for monitoring if i feel something isnt right or it happens again. I feel a lot happier knowing i can do this and of course much happier that the baby no longer feels like it's about to make a bid for freedom Alien style.

so i still feel a bit sick and achey but the aches are happening more towards the end of the day so sitting in front of my computer at work is probably the culprit here and i have an appointment and scan start next week anyway but i wont hesitate to get it checked if it happens again.

Thank you all again for your replies and advice

when I was in hospital the other day I was told an active baby is a happy baby (the babies movements was that intense I thought I was in labour) but she did say if it was too much to keep an eye on them.

glad you're feeling better now and more reassured :)
