Can anyone offer any advice on migraines? I am 12weeks pregnant and I have started to have the most awful headaches. I have never suffered with headaches/migraines so it's all a little new to me. I know I can't take painkillers but can anyone suggest anything else. So far all I've been able to do is is lie down away from any light (not ideal as I have a 10year old). Any suggestions would be appreciated Smile

Sorry to hear you are suffering with these, hopefully they won't stick around for too long.
You can take paracetamol. I've found that taking 2 with a cup of caffeinated tea does take the edge off so I can function. Make sure you stay hydrated at all times and get plenty of sleep. Also try cutting out some of the common triggers (cheese, chocolate, citrus fruits) to see if that helps at all but if they are hormonal then this is unlikely, but worth a shot.

I've got a bad one right now! I have always suffered with them mine are extremely bad I am prescribed codeine and at times if they are severe the doctor comes out to give me an injection of pethedine! These two drugs are the only ones that work for me and now I'm pregnant trying not to rely on them :( I put vapour rub on my head and drink lots of water although I always be sick it up! I've read some where that if you submerge your feet and hands in hot water it helps but yet to try this

Headache is common at 12 weeks, I'm the same. Lots of water, eat regularly and early nights are the only things that help! I'm eating a lot of cheese so might cut that down!

I suffer with migraines normally anyway but they were terrible while pg. I found making sure I didn't let my blood sugar drop too low and stayed hydrated really helped. And try soluble paracetamol, your body's uptake of them is quicker and I've found they work much better xx

Thank you so much everybody. I've just had a soak in the bath and that does seem to have helped. I'm defo going to up my water intake (and try to cut down on choc Smile).
I've felt great so far. No real sickness, so the headaches have come like bolt out of the blue. I've had 2 so far and they have both lasted aprox 24 hours Hmm. Does anyone know when they should start to ease up. I really hope they don't last right through. I really don't want to take medication. Thanks Again.

I tried acupuncture as I didn't want to take drugs. It was surprisingly effective. It works for about a fortnight.
