Braxton Hicks @ 36w feeling more like palpitations/asthma?!

Evening all,

I'm 36 weeks pregnant with baby no2. Never had BH with previous dd but I think I'm getting about 5-10 a day with this one.

What's weird is that it feels more like my lungs and chest are being squeezed instead of my abdomen? Is that possible? I get very short of breath and hot-cheeked for about a minute then it all dies away. I can't necessarily feel my heart racing though, but it's all generally a bit pants at the time.

These are BH right?! ... Hmm

I get that. I hadn't considered them bh, more hot flush type affairs but you could be right!

I suffer hot flushes when not pregnant (rare hormone syndrome) so I know these are definitely different - the squeezing sensation in my chest is so strong it really does take your breath away. If you are having the same then they are definitely not hot flushes...I'm just a bit confused about them being BH as my lower abdomen feels nothing during them!

Its all a bit weird and (slightly) worrying Confused

Yes I get this, they are BHs. I'm 35 weeks with my third baby and I got this last time but not during my first pregnancy.

I feel as though my entire upper body is constricted and i feel it up as far as my throat. I think my bump does go hard too but the sensations are definitely more noticeable higher up.

I've been getting them since about 22 weeks and they are getting more and more frequent. I don't mind them as I like to think of them as doing something beneficial!

Thanks for replying Maisie, did you ask your midwife about them to know they were BH? Whatever it is, I'm glad I'm not alone.

I'm going to be hypnobirthing in a birth pool so was worried they'd class them as palpitations and refuse my interference free birth!!

I was about to type 'oh good!' sorry! But only because I'm glad I'm not alone!! It's rubbish though ey. I'm struggling to ignore them as they are winding me completely/waking me up at night. I'm even having one as we speak so my lungs are in a vice.

I've already googled whether this means baby is coming early! Ha! Impatient.com
