++ glucose in urine

33 weeks pregnant and have just tested ++ for sugar in the urine. I had a negative GTT at 28 weeks (tested due to PCOS). All other urine samples throughout pregnancy have been negative. The midwife didn't seem too worried. Is it a case that I've just had far too many mince pies and need to get a grip on my overindulgence?
Does having a cold interfere with glucose metabolism and increase likelihood of having glucose in the wee (think I remember something about this from my uni days) or am I just clutching at straws?

I had the same a few weeks ago. What did you eat before the wee? I had had a glass of orange juice not long before doing the sample, and my midwife said that's most likely caused it.
Your pregnancy hormones can really mess with your metabolism, chances are it will be all back to normal next time. If not, they will kept an eye on you!

Thanks Jumper. I'd eaten a few chocolates and had a big glass sugary squash in the couple of hours before. I will try my best to be a bit better over Xmas as my diet has been a total shambles lately. No harm in having the wake up call I suppose. Hope yours is back to normal soon too :-)

I had this at my 28 week gp check.
I had some blood tests done which came back negative.
I'd had a breakfast full of dried and fresh fruit which probably sent my sugar levels up. It has made me watch what I eat a bit more though.
I too was indulging in the mince pies?!

Hyper filtration in your kidney lowers your threshold for glucose in your urine. In pregnancy you retain fluid and increase your cardiac output - this means your filtration at the kidney goes up a lot. So some glucose leaking into urine doesn't neccessarily mean diabetes.

The good result in the GTT is good news. This is probably just your renal glucose threshold. If worried ask to test again and if positive ask them to check you blood glucose
