Im 6 wks and have just purchased a doppler so thought id have a go not expecting to hear anything as its too early. Just heard very clear heart beat from near my pelvic bone. Is that my heart? Will try it on dh when he returns from work to make sure.

Yes it's your heart beat. The baby's will be at a much faster rate probably twice as fast as yours.

Baby's heartbeat sounds like little galloping hooves. Is quite fast. A swishing sound is the placenta.

Quite early to hear it though. Don't drive yourself mad with it either!

Baby's HB is normally around 120-160.

I wouldn't try again until atleast 16 weeks as that is the earliest a trained midwife will try and even then it isn't always possible.

Also I had a scan at 5+6 where they said baby's heart had started beating earlier that day and it was still early to be picked up on a transvaginal scan

No chance of a Doppler working that early!!

A trained midwife only attempts to pick up a heartbeat from 16 weeks, using a medical-grade Doppler. And even then they often can't find it.

I really recommend you throw the Doppler away or, at least, put it on eBay. Those things cause far too much unnecessary worry - and also, at times, misplaced reassurance.

I use a doppler in my working life just not used the fetal one before so have some experience using one. Thanks, knew it was way too early! Ive got it for dh really as think it be good for him to hear the heart beat in a couple of months time!

with my daughter who is now 5 i bought a heart beat moniter that strapped to the belly. i never struggled to find a heart beat... i was 16 weeks doc could not find a heart beat and i went to hospital. all was well. but made me realise if a doctors one did not pick up what hope do i have with a home one so i binned it...

but then i bought another one with my next pregnancy and have used it for this one to. i have only just started to use it im 16 weeks and have picked up a heart beat... oh and this one is a doppler type one. so probably better than the one that straps to the belly...
yes its defo to early to use it now op... wait till at least 16 weeks and like others have said it sounds like a gallaping horse. but will probably depend on the doppler to...

good luck and congratulation
