The pain at times is almost unbearable. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and had this with my ds 6 years ago but not until about 32 weeks. I had him at just over 35 weeks and the pain at that point feels like the pain I already have now.
It's definitely worse after a day of being on my feet at work and sometimes I can feel the baby on the left hand side where the pain is.
By evening time I don't know what to do with myself. I've tried some of the stretching exercises online, heat packs, cold packs but they don't help for long. Warm baths help whilst I'm in there but when I get out the pain comes back immediately.

Is this normal??

I have suffered with this for both pregnancies. First it started around 26 weeks, this time a bit earlier, they only way I get through it is knowing it will be gone as soon as I deliver

27 weeks might be a bit early but could it be because baby is breach perhaps? The head could be digging in around the rib area. You could maybe do those exercises to try and encourage baby to get in the head down position?

I was in absolute agony with my ribs from around 25 weeks onwards. I had nothing to compare it to and felt like I was moaning about the normal aches and pains of pregnancy - but I found out my baby was breech and he never turned. His head was lodged in my rib cage right up to my ELCS at 39 weeks it was sooooo painful!

Pregnant with #2 now and praying I get to experience a normal head down pregnancy this time!

it's horrendous, had it from 25-35 wks on first pregnancy. All that helped were specific pregnancy yoga stretches. Is baby breech?

She was at the last scan at 24 weeks and ds was too so he ended up being a c section.

I could have written this myself when I was pregnant, I ended up going to the maternity unit and the local hospital it was so painful. Unfortunately more than likely it may just be lo kicking up towards yours ribs. I know that may seem too early for lo o do so, and previously I would have agreed. But I had this pain from around 24 weeks onwards and each time was told its was the lo in an awkward position. Sorry not much help I know, I did find laying on the opposite side of the pain helped.

It really is the most horrible pain. My only salvation has been regular (expensive) but essential sessions with an osteopath. I don't think I'd still be able to sit in a chair and work otherwise. Also a bit better now baby has moved out of the breech position. Hope you get some relief somehow.

...meant to add - my osteo mentioned that a bra strap that is too tight can also send the muscles around the ribs into spasm. I bought a bigger bra and found it helped a little too - could be worth checking.

DS2 used to stick his feet right under my ribs and push. Sorry, all you can do is put up with it. Flowers

Yep, I had the same with DS, so far not with this one thankfully yet! I can remember having to pull the car over and get out as it was excruciating, mainly happened when I was sitting down.

There really wasn't a cure except labour and birth I'm afraid.

Is it all the way round or just round one side?

Report
Givinguph0pe · 04/11/2015 22:33

It's just one side. Wasn't so bad today so think she'd moved but back again tonight and I'm sure I can feel her head through the skin!

Glad it isn't just me though, it's so painful I was slightly worried.
