Normal to be this hungry!!

Hi ladies! So I'm
6 weeks today and just become really insanely hungry. I've always been a calorie counter to keep my BMI nice and stable, and usually eat about 2000 cals of healthy balanced foods. But the last few days I cannot stop thinking about food! Any thoughts or input from others would be appreciated! Is it normal to get really hungry? Don't want to start "eating for two"? Xx

Hi Silky8220,

I don't know if it is normal or not, but I am just over 8 weeks and I am starving all the time! Even when I feel queasy, I still feel hungry...

yep - i was the same and even had to stop the car to eat, hunger pains were unbelievable. I had not missed any meals too. At about 10 weeks everything started to even out and at 12 weeks I'm feeling myself - even forgot i was pregnant twice.

Make sure you have healthy snacks to hand.

Totally normal! I was exactly the same with my previous pregnancy, it will calm down in your second trimester and then when you hit your third you'll be back to eating like a truck driver again! Just try and limit the fattier foods so you don't gain too much much weight. I was back in my size 8s 3 months after baby though and I never stopped eating! Dont worry about it so much and just enjoy your pregnancy Smile

I was ravenous all the time. I would eat, and about an hour or two later, I'd be hungry again. I was so cranky when I couldn't constantly graze all day because I just felt insanely hungry. Only over the past week or two have I stopped feeling like that, and I've just hit my second trimester. Apparently, it's normal to feel very hungry during first trimester I found out recently. So glad it's not the whole entire pregnancy, I'd be a baby elephant by the time I dropped otherwise. I swear I ate more than other women did lol, it was actually embarrassing.
But anyway, yes, it's normal apparently. It'll die down soon.

I wake up at 4am with hunger pains. I'm 10+3 at the moment. It doesn't actually take much food to quell them but I need food when I get them. I've got a little pot of cashew nuts by the bed at the moment to get me through til breakfast.

I wouldn't say it's atall abnormal....people have different symptoms. I could barely eat until 16 weeks and then I literally could not stop!

Probably normal. I was like wonky and used to eat at 4am. Special K red berries and icy milk, yum. (This was 8 yrs ago).

Neither dc has grown up huge and I lost my pregnancy weight. Probably best to listen to your body and eat rather than feel wiped out.

Eat while you can. As I've got bigger I've found it harder to fit food in.

Thanks everyone! Reassures me that it's ok to eat more, guess it feels strange to do that without a visible bump!! I suppose our body is our guide to most things :-) X

Not uncommon in the first trimester. Also remember you're likely to be experiencing nausea soon and this may mean you're unable to get many calories down you. The body has ways of preparing. Although it's also possible you'll be one of those who needs to eat constantly to avoid being sick, that's normal too. I had one pregnancy where I ate fuck all and one where I consumed enough for a small army.

I was completely obsessed (even with nausea) with food. I spent a lot of time planning varied meals (but bulking out with salads as luckily bread/ pasta/ rice etc made me gag). The obsession did pass. I actually lost weight anyway, so I suspect the urge was an entirely valid calorie demand after all.

It's funny how doing some googling and the "experts" reckon 1800 cals a day during pregnancy, well I can't even survive on that when I'm not pregnant let alone pregnant!! They say you increase your cals by 200 in third trimester but I'm eating more than that now at 6 weeks because I'm so hungry :(

I had an eating disorder many years ago so im hyper aware of eating the right amounts now. Just don't want to go overboard but want to feed baby properly!!

You have to listen to your body. Pregnancy hunger isn't like normal hunger, either.
