Shall I go to maternity assessment if I can't get through on the phone? Re reduced movement

I'm 29+4 and have noticed since last night my baby hasn't moved as much as usual.

I have felt the odd little movement but I feel quite concerned. I do have an anterior placenta but was told that regardless of that reduced movements are reduced movements and should be checked out.

I don't want to feel like I'm wasting their time by going in, especially just turning up we I can't get through on the phone. I've been trying for nearly an hour.

I felt a little kick before which was reassuring but it's still not making me feel completely at ease, I just don't want to seem like a complete drama llama.

is it ok to just turn up? I really don't want to be a burden if they're busy.

They are almost certainly busy which js why no one is answering your calls... But if your baby is in distress for any reason then you need to go and get checked. I would go if I were you.

You're never wasting time. Go on in. They'll put a foetal monitor on you and you will go home later, reassured. You can't put a price on that.
Babies do have their quiet days. And the fact that you felt a little kick is great. But just for your own peace of mind, go on in.

Please go in and get checked, just for your peace of mind. I had reduced movement and am very glad I went in - there was an issue. Hopefully everything is fine and baby is just having a quiet time Flowers.

Yes just turn up - it's their job to check you, even if they're busy! Smile

don't worry if they are busy, get yourself to the hospital to get checked out. not trying to worry you but and reduction in your babys movements should be checked out.

even if you called them they would probably tell you to come in anyway.

have you tried an ice cold glass of water and lied on your side for a bit?

Go in. All they are going to say on the phone is come in. If they're busy they'll likely hook you up to a monitor and just keep popping in on you. Much better to get checked than risk anything.

Best get checked out. Never mind how busy they are.

Thanks everyone I'm on my way now.
I had a cold class of Coke and that's when I felt a little kick, so I'm just eating some sweets on the way to see if that triggers any more movement.

I tried Laying on my side this morning and got s couple of movements but nothing like usual but hopefully it's nothing to worry about

Definitely best to get checked out. I had a couple of episodes of reduced movement and they were always happy to check us out. In the end they induced me a couple of weeks early as they kept happening, and DD and I were totally fine :)

frills just go a Dr said to me the last time I was in that they would rather see me even if I just need reassurance than see me and have to tell me bad news and that I left it to late to go up. Your never wasting there time that's what they are there for x

do just go in - they would rather check you over so please don't feel like you are a burden to them - it is what they are there for! Also worrying will do you and the baby no good so even if you just get peace of mind that is enough - hoping all goes ok for you! x

So glad you're on your way to get checked frills. Please keep us posted - hope all goes well.
I'm 31+6 and have turned up at the maternity unit a couple of times unannounced when I've been worried. They never made me feel like a burden and were always happy to check me and baby.

Thank you for your replies!
I went in and everything was fine thank god! They didn't make me feel like I was wasting their time and the midwife I seen was lovely and said I did the right thing, and if I'm ever worried again don't hesitate to go in but sometimes it just takes something sugary or an ice cold drink to get things going again!

They did tell me that I had group B strep , apparently they seemed surprised nobody had told me before as they knew months ago but I have a nice yellow alert sticker on my notes now so I can get antibiotics when I go into labour.
I'm glad I went in now as I wouldn't have known I had that, so it doesn't feel like I was completely wasting their time!

So glad you went in. I have an anterior placenta and have been to triage for reduced movements and was told - once you get to a certain point (28 wks) an anterior placenta shouldn't matter.

Basically don't assume reduced movement is because you have an anterior placenta.

You did the right thing and glad baby Frills is ok

Thank you - I'm feeling very relieved!!

I would rather go in than blame it on my placenta so I'm glad I won't be the only one! I don't think you can ever be too careful!

Always go in. My hospital used to say to me they would rather check me over than me be up all night worrying. That's their job. I went in twice during my pregnancy. Hope all is ok.

I always found that if I had reduced fetal movements in previous pregnancies, eating ice cream usually woke the baby up! sometimes if you are very busy and moving around a lot then baby will tend to sleep more and move less then days you do less.
You can always phone 111 for advice if your not sure what to do as well.
glad all is ok
