Pregnancy insomnia

Hi ladies,
I'm 23 weeks pregnant & for the past few weeks/month I have suffered with insomnia. I'm going to sleep fine but wake up like clockwork around 3/4am and can't get back to sleep until 6am alarm. Is this normal? Will it pass? Is it just my body 'training' me for what's to come?
Thank you!

Hi Ratty. I guess everyone is different. I had a little bit at your stage, usually coinciding with a growth spurt in the bump and the pelvic discomfort I had along with that. Back with a vengeance at 36 weeks. Not very comforting I know, but you aren't alone Flowers

Yes, I had it really bad at 22/23 weeks. Last week (24 weeks) I slept well but it happened again last night.

I get it from the minute I conceive (it's how I know I'm pregnant) to the day I give birth. It's exhausting and I feel for you. Sorry, probably not the reassurance you were looking for.

I'm 32 weeks now and had it quite badly around your stage too. I used to just give in, get up and watch some telly until I drifted back to sleep on the sofa. I know that in my last pregnancy, I got it towards the end, so not looking forward to what lies ahead. You have my sympathies!

I was waking at 4am from 6 weeks. This shifted to about 3am at 15 weeks. Now about 2 (19 weeks).
I have a drink of water sometimes a cracker and wander around (put the laundry on the airer aimlessly flick through a book). It just seems to be what I do with this one. I know the long sleep isn't natural to humans (two cycles broken up is), perhaps pregnancy with all the higher levels of hormones breaks a bit of that conditioning.

Thanks all - reassuring to know it's not just me. Bodies are strange things xx

Yep, I was awake from 1am last night and eventually emailed my boss at 4.30am to say I wouldn't make it into work. I had backache so I think the growth spurt theory might apply to me. I'm 22 weeks. In the earlier stages (weeks 6-14) I slept awfully and ended up on reduced hours at work as I was struggling functioning. Does anyone think it's reasonable to take time off for insomnia? It makes me feel so ill but I feel really guilty not going in. Sorry for hijacking the thread!
