B Belly

I am a size 10 in clothes (both pre-pregnancy and so-far during pregnancy) but have a B-shaped belly, rather than a rounded D-shaped one.

I am just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this in pregnancy and if I can look forward to rounding out? So far my belly is clearly bigger but the B-shape is just more obvious; it makes me very self-conscious about showing off the bump as it's a B-shaped bump :(

How many weeks are you? I had the same it just looked like I had my leggings too tight around my tummy! Now I'm 22 weeks it is much more D shaped :)

Went at about 24 weeks this time.

Oh and I'm size 10 too!

I'm 18 weeks at the moment and finally into some comfortable under-the-bump maternity jeans, which really doesn't help with the shape unfortunately.

It's reassuring that you both lost your B-shapes though :)

I didn't know being B shaped was a 'thing'?! I guess that's what I am too!! I was paranoid about it just being me. I look like I've got my leggings on too tight too and not proper pregnant. I'm wearing floatier tops to conceal my 'deformity' lol. I hope I get a proper round bump soon! I'm 20 weeks currently.

Mine is still B shaped at 30+ weeks (obviously when sat down, bending over, not when stood straight). It sucks, I wasn't overweight pre-pregnancy, just the way my stomach is. Was really looking forward to 'popping' as well Sad.

Yeah I had that first time! Started getting a bit rounder near to 30 weeksish. B shaped this time too but less pronounced than last time!

I'm 31+2 and whilst my bump is almost round there is a little indent making it a b belly! Just curious- I have van anterior placenta and have read that this means you're more likely to have a b belly, as the baby is probably facing out and not un. Therefore their spine isn't along your belly, rounding it out. Any one else heard this or got an anterior placenta too?

Sorry about typos, stupid phone!

That's interesting, plonkie, yes I do have an anterior placenta, but hadn't heard that theory!

Oh I also have an anterior placenta! How interesting

I had this! And an anterior placenta! I was a size 8 and it felt very obvious to me and I hated it!

It changed at around 30 weeks

Another anterior with the same here! Look forward to when the D arrives

Ooh I guess there could be something in this then. It does make sense when u think about it! If the baby is cuddling the placenta, our tummies are less likely to be perfectly round than if baby is facing in. We're not freaks after all :-)

I think the placenta position won't influence the shape of your bump. At 20 weeks your uterus is about the height of your belly button.

Placenta position also won't influence the babies position, particularly in the earlier stages of the pregnancy, as the baby can still change position.

Sorry if I'm bubble bursting! I think your shape must depend on mutilple factors. I'm guessing if you don't have a lot of abdominal fat and have normal weight gain during the pregnancy your bump will certainly round off as time goes on.

Either way, you're growing a whole other person. It's exciting! Who cares what shape your bump is Smile

My very obvious b bump last time was with an anterior placenta. Posterior this time and ony slightly b shaped!

I like the theory on the anterior placenta and baby's position but I've an anterior placenta and at 26 weeks am nicely D-shaped. I did have the B-shape earlier on but just assumed it was my growing womb (below) pushing up my organs (above) creating the slight double bump.

Mine was like this in the early days. I was a size 12 before pregnancy with a little pot belly. I took it to be that that baby bump was filling out behind this fat packet! It seems yo have spread out now but I still think that part of my bump is a bit more padded than the rest.

I think ultimately baby bumps come in all sizes, but I was so used to seeing the perfectly round one, it surprised me when mine wasn't! There is defo a link between placental position and baby position as babies do tend to cuddle the lovely placenta! Hence the reason anterior placentas can increase the chance of a back to back birth-the baby is facing out and not in. Although it's also important to note (for all of us with said anterior placentas) that there's also a good chance the baby will naturally turn before birth, so don't worry :-).

I'm a size 18 and got my D-shaped belly at about 27 weeks last time .

I'm currently 13+5 and starting to they a bigger B-shaped belly and I'm dreading the next few months when I look hideously fat with a massive belly but it's still flabby and B-shaped so you can't tell it's a baby belly .

You will get your D-shaped eventually but that in between stage is very unflattering and it's he most self-conscious I've ever been Sad

Ooh same!! I'm a size 10-12 and I thought I had a B shaped belly because I'm 'Apple' shaped rather than 'pear' or 'hourglass' shaped!

Because of my normally fat tum all of my normal clothes still fit and cover my B lump though (I always wear a line dresses and skirts)...I hope I get a nice D shape bump though!!

Haha - I'm sorry but this thread really made me giggle!

I had no idea a D/B bump was an actual thing Grin but it's made me realise that my friend (size 16) had a B bump all the way through her pregnancy!

As daft as it sounds could you not wear clothes that even it out, or just floaty tops etc so the shape isn't so obvious?
