Sleep position nightmare -tips needed!

Last night i was very tired and it was hot so tears were inevitable but i could NOT get comfy.

Im 24 weeks, bump isn't big but baby lets me know as soon as i start to move towards my front (he does, he pokes me!).
Been told not lie on my back as not good for the blood supply to baby.
Yet on my sides (left or right) it is so uncomfortable for my shoulders and my lumbar/back pain.
I do have a pregnancy pillow -that was thrown on the floor in anger as that didnt work after a while either.

I was just beside myself last night knowing it's bound to get worse.
Ladies -want have you done to get to sleep when in all round achey pain?

I didn't get on with pregnancy pillow but used a normal pillow between my knees and hugged another pillow then had one more pillow tucked under my back.

I have two Boppy wedges and put one behind and one in front. But I've never been as uncomfortable as you describe.

I bpught the preg pillow as thought it'd be easier that millions of pillows (that and DH was worried id be kicking him out!). But maybe i'll try just a pillow under knees and one behind me then.

Anything, i need to sleep tonight!!

Try sleeping on the sofa. The back of the sofa supports you and stops you rolling backwards.

The sofa was going to be my next option -but would miss DH so then i asked if he'd camp down in the lounge with me. As amazingly support as he is he hasn't given me an answer to this yet! Confused

Try a different pregnancy pillow? I didn't like the big ones but I got a dream genii from mother care last time I was back in the UK and it's great! It has a tiny wedgey bit that sits in your lower back and a noodle bit that goes between your knees. It's small and if you turn over in the night you don't need to faff with it.

Also try adding another layer under you, like a softer mattress topper to take some if the pressure off your hips and shoulders.

Alternatively, hog the duvet and mould it around you (this requires a very supportive dh/separate duvets but it works a treat.)

I'm 21 weeks but have been having similar probs for the last few weeks, compounded by round ligament pain. I have found the dreamgenii pillow is great and we have bought a memory foam mattress topper £49 from Argos I think, which has eased the strain on my hips. I've also found that pilows under my knees (and head/shoulders) help if I want to lie on my back when getting sleepy.

I think you can lie on your back if you prop yourself up. I sympathise. I havent slept a wink in 4 nights.

I normally sleep on my side and find it's less comfortable on a firmer mattress. A very soft/fluffy mattress pad might help.

I still lie on my back for some of the night. Just remember some nights are worse than others - it isn't cumulative, just annoying.

If you can, get a memory foam mattress topper, it makes such a difference. I was dreadfully uncomfortable when I was expecting dd but now we have the topper and I'm 23 weeks with ds, I'm seriously comfy, it's so worth it.

I'm 30 weeks and struggling too. Dream genii doesn't do anything for me, I'm sleeping on two pillows side by side to soften the pressure on my hips, still not ideal. Might need to try a mattress topper like others have suggested. Or possibly sleep on top of the duvet.

I've got a pregnancy pillow but I think it's still a bit too bulky/I'm not big enough. I seem to end up stranded on my back! I lay on my side with a regular pillow supporting bump (between belly and mattress) and then between my knees, and I find that works, it does mean I have to lay slightly more or my front so I don't roll backwards.

My shoulders have been hurting and I have solved it with a sort of upside down dream genii! I use the little pillow bit to go under my bump and then the long sausage bit to go behind me, up my back and under my neck/head. It's not how you are meant to use the dream genii but it takes all the pressure off my shoulder. I then put a regular pillow between my knees which takes some of the pull off my hips. I have SPD and have literally spent nights feeling like my joints were being pulled apart . . . but this has really helped!

I put a thick duvet under the bottom sheet which makes things much softer and more comfortable - it's like sleeping in a fluffy cloud now! I also kicked DH into the spare room at 20 weeks (I'm 33 now) which has helped immensely Grin Wink

I've slept on top of a folded over double duvet for a few months now- it's been a godsend. Worth a try if you have a spare double duvet.

I've had awful pain sleeping Confused I put a flat pillow under my bump and that really does help. I also make sure my head pillows are just right because I have problems with an old neck injury

I am due in a few days - been fine till this my last week but baby has shifted to my right side and I cannot sleep lying down at all now.
The sofa and my gliding chair have become firm friends as I am much more comfortable propped up.
Duvet underneath the mattress protector for extra depth and softness and 6 pillows on my side of the bed!
I start off in bed then move downstairs for the majority of the night then back to bed in the early hours.
