Pregnancy

my legs keep cramping - 25 weeks pregnant - is there something I'm doing wrong??

The past few days have been agony. My legs have been cramping up, always whilst I'm asleep which means that I'm screaming in pain (which my dh keeps thinking is me going into pre-term labour!) I've had a look online and "its" saying that its either a lack of potassium or calcium and to tell my midwife. And to also see my Dr if my legs are tender after the cramp because of blood clots.

Is this right. Its so painful every night I dread sleeping. I work in an office so its not like I'm on my feet all day but I do get moderate exercise. Please help as I've never had a pregnancy like this...

I'm 21 weeks and experiencing the same thing. Also an office worker. Interested to hear about other people's experiences. I'm guilty of not drinking enough water which I'm sure doesn't help.

I had it too but midwife didn't seem bothered about it when I mentioned it to her. Just said it was another 'joy of pregnancy' Confused
It's horrible isn't it? I drank loads of water throughout pregnancy, had plenty of bananas, calcium rich foods etc and worked in a shop on my feet until 38 weeks.. Made no difference.
All i can say is when the cramps start, try to move your feet around in circles as quickly as you can, it helped to relieve the pain quicker for me.

I had it really badly. I was told it was a) blood vessels expanding and putting pressure on nerves b) lack of salt in my diet c) a sign of dvt d) one of those things that happens but no one knows why

I was given Clexene (blood thinner) injections but they made no difference. Sorry I don't have anything useful to say. It is miserable Flowers

Try drinking tonic water (no gin). It helps- not shore why. Though it does make heart burn worse.

I had this in my last pregnancy but was thankfully short lived, hopefully it will pass quickly

I found it was worse if I hadn't drunk much water in the day. Also started eating a banana a day, has seemed to settle now. I can feel them starting sometimes but a quick shake out and it dies down again were as before once it started there was no stopping it.

I've had this really badly too, to the extent that I can't stretch my foot back without standing up and forcing my whole weight on it.calves hurt for days after but it's just cramp not clots. Some things that seem to help me: tonic water, almonds, Brazil nuts and walnuts (magnesium), iron supplements, some walking but not loads. And never, ever point your toes even in sleep! Good luck I know how horrible it is.

Magnesium oil spray on the legs cured this for me.

I had it in both pregnancy's, tonic water definitely works, just have a drink a day. I always had to get out of bed to relieve it, not good when 7 or 8 months pregnant! Hope you like the taste.

I got this all way up to thighs when pregnant. More painful than labour. It helped to keep my legs v warm with long socks and leg warmers.

It only happened to me in bed asleep btw.
