Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy/ baby book?

I'm currently 8 weeks + 6.

Thanks :)

I have a 10 month old and just finished "What Mothers Do". Wish I'd read it when pregnant. It would have helped me make sense of all the changes to my feelings and my head. Dealing with that has been more difficult than dealing with the baby.

I bought "Your Baby Week by Week" which was rubbish.

I've had much better baby care info and advice from MN boards, friends etc than from books tbh.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Oh, and Natal Hypnotherapy by Maggie Howell is worth a read too - took away all my fears!

"what to expect when you're expecting" is good!

Ooooh, yes - 'Expecting Better'! I combined it with 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' and found that it was a good mix of approaches.

I really liked bump by kate evans for pregnancy and birth.

Baby bliss by Harvey Karp was good for the newborn days

I second "what mothers do" and also loved Anne Enright's "making babies " which is a lovely collection of her essays on motherhood.

I have your pregnancy day by day. It really made the slow early weeks go a bit quicker. Also it stopped the info overload as everything was spaced out well and it was only a few things a day.

I really like the 'Week by Week book. Not enthused by 'What to Expect' however

I hated What to Expect, found it so patronising

I read Pregnancy for Modern Girls. Had all of the info I needed (couldn't be dealing with a book that was too in depth!) and some great "real life" stories - would definitely recommend!

I found The Pregnancy Bible really informative and to the point without overloading with information. Basically tells it 'as it is' but not in a scary way!
