Pregnancy

what to expect at 6 week early scan (because of past ectopic)

I have my scan tomorrow morning to rule out another ectopic and am just wondering what to expect.
I guess it will be with dildocam as it's so early... I've been told not to expect a heartbeat but i know i will freak out if they can't see one.

How long does it take them to locate the pregnancy usually?

Thanks to anyone who can help me :)

We had a 7 weeks scan and saw a heartbeat, it wasn't dildocam either. You might just be too early to see one. I'd be tempted to put it off a week

Thanks - they want to do it tomorrow because i have had a past ectopic and lost a tube so they say they need to locate pregnancy as early as possible as if it is in my one remaining tube then I'd need methodextrate in order to ever have the chance of conceiving naturally again.

Purple - was your scan due to past EP?

Mine was dildocam. No heartbeat seen at 6/7 weeks, but clear one by 8. She's 3 now so don't worry if you don't see heartbeat at first.

Good luck. You might just see a dark blob, but it was the best scan I had as I thought I had miscarried.

Also abodomial scan here at 6weeks.
DS1 didn't have a heartbeat at 6+2, but did at 8+2.
DS2 had a hb at 6+0 (all my dates).

Both concieved post tube removal.

fingers crossed for tomorrow.

This was DD at 6 weeks 4 days. We saw a heartbeat but you don't always see one thus early

I was just 7 weeks pregnant and had an internal scan due to an ectopic pregnancy scare. I saw 2 heartbeats.

I'd had a previous MC and I was terrified. I didn't want dildocam and decided that if I saw a heartbeat that would reassure me...and it did. We told family and close friends after that

I had a scan a couple of months back due to tube removal after methotrexate failure.
It was at just 6 weeks although my due date now suggests more like 5.
They did abdominal scan first and saw 'in vitro pregnacy with heartbeat' I was so relieved that I burst into tears immediately. They then did transvaginal scan to check all details and could tell me which ovary the egg had come from. Funnily enough it was the side without the tube!
I was warned beforehand that it could be too early for a heartbeat. You may be invited back a week or two later if no heartbeat is found yet.
A quick tip, write any questions down before you go. I found my mind went blank as soon as I got there!
Good luck for tomorrow

I had a 5 wk scan due to bleeding and prev EP, I refused the internal scan and they found the pregnancy sac straight away by transabdominal

Mine was an abdominal scan at 6+1 and DD had a heartbeat, so you might be lucky.

Thank you all for your reassuring words. I am feeling strangely calm and ok as I feel it will be ok.
I will have my lovely DP with me holding my hand

I saw a heartbeat with DD at 6 weeks (post-IVF scan) and it was a dildocam. It didn't take them long to find her but I guess it varies.

Good luck tomorrow! I have a 6 week scan on Friday so I know how you feel... I could be anything on Friday from 6 weeks +5 to 5 weeks +6 so feeling a bit pessimistic at the moment that it will be too early to see the reassuring white flicker of the heartbeat!

Good news = pregnancy detected in uterus...

Bad news = no heartbeat... However they tell me this is normal and not to worry as I am only 6 wks today and may even be less as my cycles can be 32 days...

At least I am safe and I know I can get a pregnancy to the right place. Just feeling a little bit anti-climaxed as I have another two weeks to wait.

Thanks for all the messages though!

iloveberries, that is FAB news. I know the lack of hb must be a dissapointment, but you have a uterine pergnancy. No ectopic, a functioning tube, and most likely a snuggly little baby in 34 weeks time!

Congratulations, my love.

Such good news that baby found the right place. I know it's inevitable but try not to stress about the heartbeat. It is early days afterall

Brilliant news.

I know the two weeks seems interminable but you've done the 2 weeks from ovulation to testing positive and the next two weeks to scan one. This is just one more two week segment. Have you got any plans to distract you?

Thanks everyone.

It's weird that no-one apart from me, DP and a whole host of mumsnetters know our news!!

I work every day when DS is at school and then have him after school and often work again in the evenings so the time goes fast. This weekend is packed with kids activities and then next weekend DP and I are going away with friends so we have a lot on to help the time pass.

just have to keep positive
